Round 1 - Changes vs Carlton

Yeah.

Dow was worse than Hopper today.

No doubt.

But Dow is trying to step up to AFL and maybe, speculatively, has something. Probably not, but let's just double check.

I know what you get from Hopper. It's not good enough. He tried. But that is the midfield performance we will get with Taranto and Hopper in the middle.

We've seen it before.

We will keep seeing it.

I don't know why would keep persisting?
You can't be serious? Dow has no hope of ever getting anywhere near Hopper's level. At the same stage of their careers Hopper was a fixture in Giants teams that that were playing in finals every year and played in a GF in his 4th season.

Dow is in his 5th season and has shown nothing apart from a bit of form in practice games that no one cares about. And you think he can achieve a higher level than Hopper?

Come on man.

Unfair to fully blame Dow for today. What did Hopper, Prestia, Tarranto and others do?
Not much but they did manage to touch the ball more than 6 times. FFS how can you play midfield and get 6 touches including one kick?? Hopper did kick 2 goals as well.

Practice match form means jack *smile* when the real stuff starts.

In: Nank, Dusty, Lynch, Ross, another small forward (Coulthard/Green)
Out: Prestia, Ryan, Banks, Naismith, Dow.

Coultard/Green to replace Shai in the forward as permanent forwards.
Only one of Taranto/Hopper in the centre square at a time, with Dusty, Baker, Bolton, Maurice rotating through.

And Taranto, Hopper, Prestia didn't work round 1 2023, big cross for Yze thinking it would work round 0 2024.

No, not really.

I don't really expect Dow to have a career past this year.

I'd already written him off, to be honest.

But he's had a flawless preseason, and played a very good praccy game last week. He has less exposed AFL form, so I think it's worth seeing whether today was a reversion to type, or an anomaly in an upward trend.

The thing with Hopper, is that with an eye on the now, or the future, I don't see it. We know that he and Taranto create a B grade midfield at best.

There is only 4 years age difference between them. Plus we have Hopper on a 7 year deal; not great but it's done and it can't be undone right now.

They are light years apart as footballers. Hopper maybe B grade but Dow is an F. Plus Hopper was miles and miles ahead of Dow at same stage of career. Regular finals player. I'm picking him every week over Dow.

Would also like to drop Grimes and Young but not sure we have any better options. Maybe Prestia out too; looks to be going through the motions; McAuliffe? Hungry young kid with a good attitude and strong body.
Lafau was sensational in VFL, same height as Grimes, maybe taller as Grimes is so old he's probably shrinking.

Out Prestia Grimes Ryan Banks
In Dusty Lynch Clarke Ross

One less tall
One less slow inside midfielder
One more speedy skilful player
One more GOAT

Of course i understand there is more chance of me hooking up with Margot Robbie than this club making a hard decision...

Not sure if nank is available.
Dow needs to play as does Ross, Campbell etc.
No more one shot and out.

In Dusty, Lynch, Juddy
Out Banks, Ryan, Kosi,

I'd love to include Nank, but we can't afford to have him and Lynch after the preseason they have had.

Ross stays in the squad.

I agree with to a point. If they show absolutely nothing and are totally ineffective you still need to earn the spot to keep, but I”d keep Dow in for Thursday even if probably doesn’t deserve it this time.
