Richo

Re: anouncement from puntroad tomorrow

I really hope they've got it wrong this time. Seeing him play 300 would have been the greatest moment for the club in the last 20 years.

One question leysy would like answered that likely never will.

What cost did the absolute & total mismanagement of Richo against firstly North Melbourne & then the following week against Sydney bring.

It without question ruined him not just for last year & likely a year or two following.

Disgraceful. Those decisions to play him when on one leg at his age have cost thousands upon thousands of Richmond supporters plenty of joy.

Bloody well said that Pidley lad.

Agreed. The ineptitude of our football club has seen the only champion Richmond player of this generation forced to retire and be denied the sendoff he so richly deserved.

I am just glad he was able to call it quits now, rather than go through the hard yards of pre-season and another buildup only to breakdown later.

Richo, you are a superstar....I dips me lid to you. :clap

Put him onto the RFC Board at the next AGM.

As they've done in the past get someone who is due to step down to not renominate and endorse Richo as the replacement. No-one... except David Clayton maybe :D ..... would be silly enough to try and win more votes than Richo?

Absolutely Devastated :'(
God bless you Richo for all the enjoyment you have given every true tiger fan over 17 glorious years :clap

A wonderful champion.

He had the respect of both the Tiger faithful and the whole football community. Not too many players bow out with such a high accolade. A true testament of the type of personality and player he was. An absolute ripping bloke.

With all our bickering and disagreements on PRE, be it for better or for worse, at least we will all agree that, Matthew Richardson you are true champion who represented our club with passion, integrity and unequivocal loyalty.

Thank you Richo.

it pretty much sums up his career going out like this.
a massive disappointment.
not his indidvidual form mind you,he was an absolute superstar, but there was no fairytale during his career.
it was littered with injury,a *smile* team, countless 9th place finishes, wooden spoons and one finals series.

yet he still managed to kick 800 goals.

it`s frightening to think how *smile* we would have been without him.
carried a dead weight on his shoulders for 15 years.

legend!

can`t wait to stand behind the punt road end goals round 1 next year and hear the roar when he gets his send off.

Gutted. This caps off what was a terrible year for the club.

Richo, you were and still are a god. Worshiped by all who support the Yellow & Black and by everyone who follows the game. I am sure that if you could have played on you would have with total committment to the club, What a champion :clap

Twice in a lifetime.

I was there for Roycey's last game and it truly broke my heart to see the champion limp off mid game. You knew he was finished, the man could hardly walk normal as it was. I remember, just wishing he could go on, just for one more game.

God I'd like one more Richo game please

Great to hear lots of opposition supporters calling SEN and showing respect for Richo.

I know we all knew it was inevitable. But it would have been great to give him a fitting send off after a game. It's not to be though.
Cheers mate, thanks for your passion and loyalty. You gave us many a high and a few lows ;D in what has been a dismal era for our club.
Well played. :clap

as one who doesnt rate his footy exploits as high as most i to have to admit it is indeed a sad day for the rfc and its followers.
a true gentleman and a true character of the game there arent enough like him in society yet alone footy.

and ya know im disappointed with the timing as well. two reasons it would have been great for such an icon to get a farewell game clearly he is idolised by most rfc supporters.

the second is a bit selfish. but as one who would have gone hard to trade him for draft picks 5 or so yrs ago, he now goes at a time when i think it important he can go around one more time who else is there to take the heat of jack and maybe post.

finally as a tasmanian have to say what a huge contribution tasmania has made to the rfc with kpfs. royce hart disco roach and mathew richardson.

I thought this was a thread about Richo, not about claw.

well I am way late jumping into this thread but....like many of us I am very sad to hear this news. Thank you Richo, you gave me enjoyment at the footy when there was little else to celebrate.
Good luck with your future plans

Feel very very sad. Will cheer him as he drives past on his lap of honour, but would have loved to stand and applaud him walking off the playing arena for the final time.

Thanks for the loyalty to the club when others would have chased the cash. Thanks for the passion, the spectacular marks, the spectacular goals, the spectacular misses, the spectacular dummy spits that kept us entertained when we were getting thumped. Thanks Richo for bleeding yellow and black like the rest of us.

It is going to be a very different team next year.

Wish you well in your new life in the media, or whatever you choose to do :).

Guttered!.... would of love too of seen a farewell game at the G!... perhaps you might get a final lap of honour before the RD1 clash against those Liberal Bastards!.

On the bright side of all this, is that we (Richmond supporters) were lucky enough that "RICHO" played at Richmond and not any other club, so we got the enjoyment of seeing "THE BEST CONTESTED MARK" ever to play the game!!.... in a 282 game/800 goal career!

thanks for the memories the commitment and passion you showed for the black and yellow.
all the best Richo, kick on
