Richmond 2017 AFL Premiers

It wasn't that long ago our defence was the leagues laughing stock.

Do some forget the Rance and McGuane Benny Hillesque defence?

What a turnaround for Rance, from one of the worst defenders to the best.
While Rance is one of the best we've ever had, he's got some great lieutenants in Astbury and Grimes with Vlas also realising a lot of his potential last year.

Not so much a turnaround as a natural learning curve. Pretty hard to be the player he is, as a 19, 20, 21 year old.
The most remarkable thing about Alex is that he has developed his game to the point it is whilst, as you point out, being surrounded by very average players in his early years. It wasn't until Chaplin played in 2013 that he had a reliable KP player with him in defence. Compare this to the player Alex is most compared to in Scarlett, and the contrast couldn't be greater. Stoneham, Graham, McGrath, Mansfield, Sanderson V. Newman, Thursfield, Moore, McGuane.... Thank God for Leppitsch!
To get where he is today, I'd say Alex is one extremely driven steely MoFo, with an enormous amount of heart and unwavering loyalty to his teammates.
He will truly go down as one of our Greats.

Just watching the final quarter of the Prelim, *smile* I waited 37 years and now I don’t have the patience watching the replay not to fast forward to the best bits

I go on 3 or 4 two hour walks per week - since sept i just keep listening to the radio calls - yesterday it was the 5AA call ;D it's by far the best and most respectful of how the Tiges played - love it

I thought the 5AA call would be a laugh, but they were great. They picked that Richmond just weren't allowing Adelaide to play to their strengths. Hats off to them as it would have been hard.

If you do want a laugh listen to some of the Adelaide podcasts - best to listen to the GF preview followed by the post GF wrap, enjoyable >:D And very salty :rofl

On SEN Malthouse was the first to see we would win. He was very factual and in hindsight was right. The others didn’t take much notice because it wasn’t what they wanted to hear.

I hear ya MDJ , was just finding the negatives an how far some of these Premiership players have come. I think I’m right saying as far into his career as his 4th year Rance was still struggling, don’t think his biggest fan could have predicted the turn around, not unlike the entire team this time last year.

Yeh, he’s the most improved player I’ve ever seen play. From crazy kamakazi with almost no composure, no judgement and questionable decision making to the best defender in my lifetime.

If anyone is up the GF replay is on fox again!

The thing that surprised me most about the 5AA call, was they didn't think that the Eddie Betts hold was a free kick.

Whoever suggested listening to the Adelaide podcasts for Grand final preview and review....thank you.

:rofl

Never laughed so hard in my life. After hearing that I can't believe the Tiges bothered turning up. Their forwards were better, and backs and miss and structure and tactics and ...

There was no strategy we could use to win
None! We didn't even have ANY player on our list good enough to tag ANY of theirs....

Absolute kak!

No doubt. He pretty much called it early in the second and i think we may have been 2 goals down. His first quarter rebuke of the over reacting Garry Lyon is good too.

I think that was part of the Crows problem. Their tires were pumped up so much by the SA media that they really didn't think they could lose.

The next podcast (after the GF review) has an interesting bit of gossip from "a reliable source ... within the four walls" that about 12 Crows players were "spooked" by the crowd noise.

Can't wait for Round 2 when we jam one up them on their own patch. They never did, but now the sooks are starting to sh!t me.

This is comedy gold! :rofl

I'm so thankful our players didn't listen to this or they would have thought it would be pointless turning up.

Yep; we had a dream run - our skills are poor, we've played no quality opponents, the umpires have helped us win!

Its getting better!

They would pick Talia over Rance every day - apparently Talia is by far the better player! :rofl

I don't even care what is being discussed in this thread any more. i just like seeing it at the top of the page.

In sing-song tones: "We won the flag, we won the flag, we won the flag, ha, ha, ha."
