Richmond 2017 AFL Premiers

Watched the 80 GF the other day on Fox, then decided what the heck why not watch the 2017 GF great way to spend a saturday !! Just Saying.

Didn't know where to put this so since we are the reigning premiers I will post on this list.

If you haven't read it, heard it on SEN or from fellow supporters/ or opposition supporters, Champion Data has the Tigers listed as , wait for it, 9 th best list...

Trent Cotchin is not rated as elite.
Jack R that is doesn't get even a mention, which would have to be an oversight from nuffy Luffy & Kingy.

We have only 3 listed as elite.

Out of their top 3-4 sides by memory, four are interstate clubs in the elite category.
Swans
Port
GWS

Again they have gone with our dream run with injuries!

Hope this is further ammunition for the players.

The 3 RFC elite players are Dusty, Rance & Edwards...

It really calls into question the worth of some of the stats they use.

Exactly IanG

To have the Swans, goodness sakes Port and I understand GWS as the top 3-4 lists, but who has won the past two premierships?

Dogs
Tigers.

To not even consider Cotchin ( wasn't even rates amongst other captains as worthy ) but scarecrow Walker was and Jack one of the smartest , 2x Coleman medalist in the elite category is an insult.

I shouldn't get so worked up as they , I think by memory, had the Pies midfield rated the best , two years running. Where have they finished the past few years.

That's right, outside the top 8.

A team of dedicated individuals with less ability overal will always beat a team of champions'.

Stats are about right but Champion Data, I believe, use two year rolling averages.

Jack has been elite for years under Champion Data but his performance has actually diminished the last two years if people are being objective. Shed clearly elite and has been for years. Rance and Martin superb.

It's likely though that on their stats Toby, Dion and even Lambert will push up well into the top 100 players.

Whether they are elite depends on what category they are in. Cotch is rated 15 in the AFL on AFL ratings. However virtually all those above him are midfielders so therefore he is not elite.

Miles was virtually always inside top 50 when he got games but again as a mid that is not considered elite in his position. Just above average.

And almost finally ratings are about numbers. They factor in but cannot tell the whole story of the Cotchin hunting of opponents, Rioli's 100% on everything and the Townsend crunch.

And finally we have a fair chunk of players who have played less than 40 games in the last two years ( such as Butler and other newbies). Butler's ratings are excellent and he is likely to be inside top 150 if he keeps this year's form next year, but if you have not played regularly over last two years your ratings will suffer.

Let the whole AFL world expect us to do a Footscray 2017. All the more enjoyable when we go back to back

If the team ever needed some extra fire in the belly, this is it.
Stick it on the locker room wall.
Here some extra motivation guys

I reckon Jack's performance has improved the last couple of years. Apart from kicking less goals, i would've though the rest of his game would stack up pretty well. His team play has been unselfish and quite outstanding.

Boyd, libba, stringer, etc. A number of talented flakes in their line up. Plus some key elders retiring. Made 2017 very difficult.

I am confident we have a mich more stable and committed list.

Stats shmats, who cares about where Champion data has us rated. We will forever be 2017 PREMIERS.

The rest of the footy world can only be envious of us. It doesn't matter what anybody else says we'll be the REIGNING PREMIERS for the WHOLE of the 2018 season, after that who knows.

I'm just going to sit back & enjoy what was achieved last year & hope we can do it again this year.

As soon as I read that Grimes was rated as average I knew that these stats from champion data meant nothing.

FWIW the Pies were rated as having the 6th Best 22, we are 7th. Gee Dimma must be a genius and Buckley must be the biggest nuffer in the history of footy.

That bit is pretty close to accurate.

Having read Konrad's book, it is clear that winning back respect was a big motivator this year. There were always doubters right throughout the season that kept on providing the motivation. Now experts think we were lucky / overachieved. 9th best list, not even on the first 4 lines of premiership betting. I'm sure this will continue to be used as motivation this year.

Richmond continue to be underrated. So be it. Hopefully the football world will still be underrating us after we win it again.

Always thought this was an exceptionally talented group. Was proven to be the case in 2017.

Their stats cannot measure this team's potential because it's an unknown quantity. Aside from our great four champions along with Grimes, Astbury, Houli and Grigg, the rest of the side have a huge upside as do the likes of Menadue, CEllis, Bolton, Stengle and Markov who missed out on the flag team.

It will be great to fly under the radar again, but it will be a tougher year. Harder draw, many teams in with a chance, and we cannot have such a dream run with injuries again.
