Rich Vs Adel (March 11th, 2011)-Teams [Merged]

Hi everyone at PRE.

This is my first visit to PRE for 2011.

I have got away from footy over the summer. Sure I have still kept up with the major news and seen a bit of of the NAB cup and spoken with mates socially etc, but basically a break from footy is what I needed. I find over the season I get so into it all, that a break from it does me good. Especially as we are Richmond supporters and the constant hurt barracking for us provides.

I feel fresh and ready for the footy to take over life again. I have been saying to people that I am looking forward and not looking forward to the season starting if you know what I mean.

Obviously this year is another building year. I look at the list, and we are a school boys team. Newman and Tuck as about the most experienced players we have, and they have never played a final. Certainly a very young and inexperienced club currently. I wish I could flash forward 5 years and see if what we are doing now will provide the success we all crave, or if it will all go wrong again.

I certainly believe we are giving ourselves to best chance to have success. It has been a total clean out. But patience is still required. I expect a similar year again this year as last. 6-8 wins would be a good result.

I am posting here as I went to the practice game too. And watch the NAB cup game on TV.

I got home a tried to give my wife a few positives. Foley played, Helbig looked good, but it was hard to find too many.

So I was pleased to read DH was angry about the game, and that the club described it as a poor game, and didn't hide behind the ' its only a practice game ' line.

It was poor. The 3 things that most concerned me.

1. Its Jack or nothing up forward.

2. Backline was bad. Won't point finger at anyone individually, it was just bad.

3. And no run and spread. The crows constantly got us on the back flanks and set up their zone and we were stuffed, We either went side to side until it was turned over or went to a contest where the crows would win the ball back. We can't break defensive zones.

And of course plently of skill errors to go with it all.

Basically we are young, up and down. We are better than what we showed Friday, and need to be positive. I'm sure as the season starts, we will see plenty of promise for the future.

Lastly, the new look web site looks great. Well done to all those involved. And well done to those who got PRE in the press for their donations.

Look forward to having discussions ( and a few arguements ) with you all through out the year.

Go Tige's. Keep the faith.

Connors came down awkwardly on his ankle in the second quarter. Cursed God's name. Didn't return.

I haven't watched the tragic last quarter, but from the first 3 I have watched it really wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. Perhaps it's my low expectations, however the biggest thing I learned from the game is that the Tigers will have a very poor depth of AFL quality players this year. If anyone from our A team goes down, the next layer of players really may not be up to it and we may get some thrashings.

A few of our regular players who played either good, or at least serviceable football last year were terrible. Both Angus and Edwards would have easily cost us 2 goals each in the first quarter through insipid ruck work or soft turnovers. Others like Matty White or Rance played some good footy mixed in with some shocking clangers.

I thought Grigg and Houli will easily waltz into our first game on their current form, which is an excellent result from last years trade and draft period considering not too much (according to this poster) was given up.

On the pre season form, I would name Conca in place of Edwards. I don't think I have seen him waste a possession yet, rare indeed in a Tigers jumper.

I also thought Vickery showed he is on a rapid upward curve. His work inside the pack was mid fielder like, great hands and evasiveness for such a big fella. He also did some good work as LMID. I look forward to watching his progress this year.

I guess I better drink some concrete now and watch the last quarter.

Sorry to open a recent wound here but, have it on good authority that Hardwick was so incensed with the effort on Friday that after blasting the crap out of them straight after the game he told them to put their runners on and sent them on a 3-4 km run.

Read into that what you will.

Early bird gets the worm, eh.

While it was a disappointing loss, Jack, Newy, Deledio (3 handy players) and Jacko played after having interupted preseasons, Cotchin didn't play.
Keep the faith brothers and sisters!

I reckon he has has looked at the fixture and realized we have no chance for he first 5 rounds, and treated the pre-season like it was December. Played everybody on the list and had no intent to do anything other than get a few k's into the players and have a look at 40 something players. Very wise compared to Collingwood, who for some bizarre reason seem to want to start the season a month early. This will haunt them in august, mark my words.

So the tigers will ease into the season losing the first 5, before finding their best 22, and hit their straps around mid season, before running out of steam with young legs at the end of the season.

No good reason to expect more than about 8 wins for the season, but we can hope to blood many new young players like Conca, Batchelor and Hebig, along with sorting out who can play from last years recruits.

If you manage your expectations to that level, around 8 wins, and none for the first few rounds, you may find some cause for optimism.

Is it really self indulgent to revive your old posts when you actually finally get one right?

Missed out on the draw and only predicted 8 wins, but more impressed with my Nostradamus like prophecy that Collingwood would suffer later in the season for their early start.

P.S. You have no idea how many of my old posts I had to go through to find one where I nailed it ;D

If suffering is making the grand final then please bring on the suffering for us poor Tiger supporters.
