Rhyan Mansell welcome to Tigerland

If Mansell played for an "AFL" club he would not have even made the papers.
The game is genuinely at the crossroads.

Mansell must be scratching his head this morning wondering what is the difference between his & Rohan's incidents? Both were accidental collisions based on millisecond decisions. Mansell though is missing 3 weeks. Farcial.

Lol in what reality do you think a player gets suspended for an incident with a team mate lol, hilarious take.

Rohan was never going to be looked at by the MRP, but Mansell is unlucky this incident happened just after his suspension, rather than just before.
Both were going for the ball, both realised at the last moment they werent going to get it, and contact was unavoidable and both braced/protected themselves.
Rohan KO'ing his own team mate shows that sometimes on the footy field things happen.

Well it should.
Unless The AFL consider all accidental encounters by opposition players as intentional then yes rohan should receive the same treatment as opposition players.
Concussion is Concussion no matter what causes it.
Would he have been suspended if his actions concussed Lever? Yes he would have.

Yes, that's the point.

How come in one case it's an accident and in the other case its three weeks ? Virtually identical accidental bracing for contact at the last minute.

Nobody is saying Rohan should go for an accident against his own team mate. But if they're both an accident despite causing concussions, neither of them should be suspended. If anything Rohan's was more deliberate !

They've broken their own rule using the justification that it was friendly fire, yet both of the receiving parties were concussed.

That shows that you CAN have an accidental contact with another player that causes a concussion (Rohan) that doesn't equal a suspension (as Mansell's did). We saw this exact situation when Lynch turned at the last second to defend himself from oncoming traffic and that was dismissed on the principal that you're allowed to defend yourself.

They basically called Mansell, his counsel and Richmond liars and said that Mansell deliberately tried to take Aish out. I find it to be a bloody travesty. You're allowed to compete for a ball in dispute, you're allowed to go in harder than the other bloke and you're allowed to brace yourself at the last second if impact is inevitable.

Some people cant get their head around it. It's become layers of confusion now.

The AFLs football department is basically a headless chook, nothing that's been for the good of the game has come from them in years.

What if 2 teammates had a fair dinkum punch up on field? One is knocked out and the other requires a head full of stitches.
Is that “striking” or would it come under “friendly fire”?
Ive actually seen it in a game, not at afl level. But the point remains

With Nankenstein going out, pretty happy to get this hard nut back.
Just needs to play it smart.
Run, tackle, create.
Pressure, pressure, pressure.
Many oppo players scared.
Ginna-sook still sleeps with lights on after Nigel's free facial!:))

Nigel's just missed three matches plus the bye week, would be surprised to see him ramped straight back into the side. Prefer to see him get a run in the magoos first, just to get some touch and game miles back in the legs.
Keeping Moju in the side for the Weagles game won't be a game breaking option, but it could provide an opportunity to help the young fella to feel a little more comfortable in his senior AFL skin.

Think he comes back in as he wasn't injured so has kept up the fitness and the contact training. Thinking about it more, I am not sure Pickett will go back to WA so might be a straight swap.

MRJ is the better pressure forward. No contest.

Watching the replay of the Swans game, there were four separate occasions when MJ created a repeat entry into our forward line where no one else would have.

But, on exposed form this year, Mansell has been the better footballer.

He has been clean, opportunistic and tough.

He's the opposite of silky. Sandpapery? Honestly sandpaper is way more useful than silk.

I've theorised at length about whether you can still afford pure pressure forwards in the current version of AFL. Right now, MRJ is that. I do wonder though, what the covid years have meant for him. He was a genuine small forward, with goal sneak craft, at VFL in his first year. Seems to have deserted him now.

And I wouldn't have thought it at the start of the year, but Mansell offers more than just a pressure forward. He can pounce on the loose ball and punish. He can provide one on one contests and win or halve them. And he can pressure.

So the coach has a decision. Do you want Elite pressure and not much else. Or do you want pretty good pressure and the chance at some more influence with the ball?

For me, it's Mansell right now.

I hope MJ can recapture some of what he showed in his first year. I have a theory that they should just paint an opposition player on the ball. 'Hunt that the way you would hunt him.' He'd get 30 disposals.

Ah yes I clearly remember a Tiger player who would have benefited from a hamburger being painted on the ball.

Why can’t we play both?
