Okay, so those were the cards we've been dealt - now we accept it and focus on solutions:
Speed of running at point of impact + direction of ball movement should be given more attention at training. Club should do more preparation to develop safer but smart learned behaviours in these split second situations. No choice but to comply, so reinvent with a positive attitude. How can we win these?
- Slow down when the ball is dribbling towards you.
- Only contest at high speed when you'll most likely be 1st to the ball
- Don't ever contest 50/50 contests at high speed, just slow down before you get to the contest and try to win the contest another way (this is what they want, but... how do we win these?).
Players running with the flight of the ball are more likely to get tunnel vision, because they feel like they're closer to taking possession. They're more at risk, so the player running against the flight takes on more responsibility. How do we get on the front foot and find solutions quicker than all the other clubs?
