Reece Conca - so long and thanks for all the fish

Re: Reece "Squirrel" Conca

Now now Bullus, leysy never said that. Not close.

But yes, still think Heppell will turn out a very good midfielder who will play a similar style to Pendlebury i.e. tall, inside & out mid who can buy himself time to use it well.

You have mentioned him in the same breath as Pendlebury on more than one occasion, if it's just a comparison of playing styles then fair enough.

I personally like Heppell but still have reservations about his potential to become a damaging mid. For this to happen, he'll need to hone his inside game and learn to deal with some close checking. He still has a tendency to skirt the packs instead of attacking the ball when there's a bit of a scrum. This is where Pendlebury is elite, he can also play an inside role and win his fair share of contested footy.

I actually can't think of too many elite mids who are strictly outside, Shaun Grigg would come close but he's certainly not top shelf.

Re: Reece "Squirrel" Conca

Couple of posts from a quick search on leysy comparing them BH. Nothing too outlandish from what leysy could see.

& yeah it will be interesting to see how he finishes up as we obviously see him differently. All good footy banter.

Fair enough. All opinions.

For leysy, he believes Heppell will have little trouble adapting to the midfield. He has the composure, awareness, & ability to "buy time" in tight. All things good midfielders need. Very Pendlebury like. Actually think he will really blossum once moved in there. As JB alluded there are more question marks on Gaff's ability in the heat than Heppell ILO.

Thats no slight on Gaff though, he will no doubt be a very good hard running player. & running hard is half the battle these days.

As he mentioned earlier Heppell currently a clear No 2 if the draft was held now for leysy. That could/will change as times goes by as its only their first year.

Leysy Days said:
Getting to Pendlebury's level is obviously a stretch, as it is to all but a couple in the game.

Think Heppells strengths are very similar to Pendlebury's though and that he will end up at an extemely high level as a midfielder down the track.

On topline purely outside mids, yeah there havent been many. Peter Matera & Leigh Montagna might be a couple maybe.

good mark, but boy did the commentators go on about it. you would think no player had ever run back with the flight of the ball before.

agree with the sentiment. Heppell is a 2nd year player going very well.
it goes both ways a little too. Conca is also a 2nd year player looking good.

both Richmond and the Dons should be happy, and if comparisons have to be made a lot of time has to pass before they are really meaningful.

Indeed Scoop. Most players wouldn't have had the courage to mark that. Let alone a skinny kid in his 2nd year

Wait til he starts rolling through the midfield in a few years.

I think the vast majority of Richmond supporters want Hep to fail so we don't look silly with Conca.

I doubt the vast majority of Richmond supporters would even give it a thought really.

Re: Reece "Squirrel" Conca

Conca is a kid, when he is a man, he will be hard as nails, you wait and see.

His skills will also improve.

Really? Go back through this thread and see how often Heppell is mentioned.

Every one is going to compare the two.

Re: Reece "Squirrel" Conca

I reckon if you were to compare Conca and Heppell, others like Caddy, Polec and Gaff should be included as they were all drafted in 2010 from 4-8 as mids.
Their rankings to date are pretty much determined by the success of the teams they are playing in.
Hence all of them should be given another 3 years to develop.

I'm happy with our bloke and think think the others are good players too.
Conca will be a tough inside mid in the mould of Foley.

A few posters on PRE would hardly reflect the opinion of the majority of Tiger supporters. I certainly haven't given it any thought myself.

Re: Reece "Squirrel" Conca

I would have thought that what the PRE posters say (even a few) probably would be a reasonable cross section of what the tigers fans are thinking.

Anyway, lets hope Reece has a blinder this week

Like the few, as in the example below, who bagged Alex all the time rather than support him as a Tiger? I think not. I doubt the Hepple comparisons, as with the Rance attacks, are reflective of the majority of PREnders let alone the majority of Tiger supporters.

I stand by everything single thing I have said about Rance-he wil be off the list at the end of his contract and won't be picked up -even with two new teams!

What do you think Rosy? will he be at Richmond in two years time? Go on, give us your prediction for the golden child.

Re: Reece "Squirrel" Conca

So sick of the argument. Everytime Conca has a good game some say 'better than Heppell'. Everytime Heppell plays well some say 'Gee we should have taken him'. Snoozefest.

Heppell is a quality player and has done very well thus far in his career. I am also very happy with Reece, love what he brings to the side.

Re: Reece "Squirrel" Conca

I reckon allybabe would know the taste of Humble Pie real well by now!

Re: Reece "Squirrel" Conca

Only in his second year... same with Batchelor. Richmond as a side ain't moving forward until this boys get another 2 years under the belt.

Re: Reece "Squirrel" Conca

Fiora v Pavlich....Tambling v Franklin....Conca v Heppell...Martin v Jetta....and it goes on.

Whats done is done. I just hope Conca becomes a good footballer for us. So far I have seen signs that he will be. Heppell? I couldn't give a rats tossbag about him to be honest.
