Reece Conca - so long and thanks for all the fish

Re: Reece "Squirrel" Conca

I was cleaning up files on my laptop over the weekend and I have some downloaded matches saved . i couldn't help having a look at some parts of games earlier in the season .
I had forgotten how good this kid looked early in the year before he ran out of gas . He will be a genuine quality midfielder imo .

Yep, I think a lot of supporters forgot just how well he performed early in the season, loved his first game against Essendon. FJ actually noted in his recent interview that a solid preseason will make a marked improvement, a lot to look forward to with the Conca Truck.

Re: Reece "Squirrel" Conca

Yeah, Squirrel will become one of the key midfield rotations. Despite the ranganess, he's going to be a gun.

Despite, or because of?

Re: Reece "Squirrel" Conca

I reckon Conca is pretty tough too and can take a hit. Conca really needs to kick that goal he has been searching desperately for and he will blossom (having a preseason too will no doubt help).

Will be an absolute star midfielder- no doubt from me at all. Finds space, runs to the right areas and is an elite user.

Leysys said it before but in his opinion Heppell has huge similarities to Scott Pendlebury.
Do not agree- soft as butter- when has he actually played on someone?? Extremely overrated player IMO.

One of those flashy long haired types who skite the outside. Conca will be so much better than this bloke it is not funny. At least he is not afaid to put the body on the line, even at 18 yo. Will be a class act will Reecy

Inspired me to have a look again and couldn't agree more. His linkup work is fantastic.
Both Conca and Batchelor were tremendous selections last year.

Need to re-sign Batchelor post-haste. Still concerned that he's the one significant member of last year's new batch (no pun intended) that hasn't yet.

Re: Reece "Squirrel" Conca

I see Conca as being a really critical part of our midfield.

All the great midfields seem to have a work horse. A guy who week in week out does a super efficient job supporting the talent around him, allowing the silky skilled guys to do their stuff.

Conca to me is going to fill that type of mainstay role.

I agree about Conca's workrate; everytime he gives it off he instantly runs hard to make himself an option again; a trademark of great midfielders. I think you are selling him short though; will be alot better than just a workhorse who supports the 'stars'. He is ultra creative himself and just knows how to find space and where to run. Kicking isn't elite but his footy brain is good enough to still be able to weight his kicks very well. Gets under them a little at the moment but i'm sure his penetration and speed in the air will improve. Confident Reece will be a great midfielder fo us.

GO TIGES!!!

Re: Reece "Squirrel" Conca

That's why I've been an advocate of Webberley for the years he's been here. He's another type that keeps running to create an option. He also shepherds.

Not knocking Conca's first year at all but to say Heppell is soft to me says you didn't watch him play too much. Understandably you're going to try and protect your 1st year players a bit so there is no embarrasment in not being as hard at the ball as a seasoned player. But statistically Heppell had more average tackles per game, more contested possession and more 1%ers than Conca. Heppell is a beauty, probably the best performed 1st year player this year. But again wasn't unimpressed with Conca's first season either.

Re: Reece "Squirrel" Conca

Comparing heppell to Conca is ridiculous, Heppell was outstanding and Conca took 5-6 senior games to use to the pace of senior football.
Conca will be good, but better then Heppell I don't think so.

Re: Reece "Squirrel" Conca

No need for a Conca Heppell comparison. I'm backing the recruiters in. We could have taken Heppell but chose Conca with criteria on and off the field. Conca will be at least very good but more importantly fits the culture.

Why is Heppell like Fevola??
Heppell could've fitted the same criteria, what ever that is meant mean.
Yeah! Heppell dosent fit our culture..

Re: Reece "Squirrel" Conca

Whilst I respect your right to be overly negative about anything to do with Richmond, don't you think it might be a good idea to wait and see how they go next year once Conca's had his first preseason before you declare Heppell the winner?

I'm not being negative, if you ask anyone who is currently better, heppell would win hands down.
We all want improvement in all our players, but you can't rate or comment on someone being bias.
I love Richmond, I rate our players,
If we are able to find another Batchelor or Grimes I would be Rapt!
