Reece Conca - so long and thanks for all the fish

Hardwick has set the bar pretty low for Conca it seems. Short won't get a look in all year unless Conca rips his hammy.

“Reece, down back, I thought was terrific,” Hardwick said.

“His ability to compete, find the ball, win possession-gains, then distribute, has been really pleasing.”

:help
Dimma and Conca are like the Australian cricket selectors and Mitch Marsh.

Re: Reece "Pitching Wedge" Conca

If Conca spends a chunk of time in the VFL team then the Tigers will be travelling OK.

Re: Reece "Pitching Wedge" Conca

Conca goes alright. Wins his own ball, hard at it, looking fitter than ever. If his hammy goes we can replace him, we have options. Fairdinkum he aint the worst.

Re: Reece "Pitching Wedge" Conca

could dimma seriously think of playing conca or hunt before short.???..that would be flabbergasbing.....

Re: Reece "Pitching Wedge" Conca

Tommy Lynch 5 goals and it's not even half time against the premiers :'( :pullhair

Re: Reece "Pitching Wedge" Conca

One of the few Tiges who worked for a living today.

Re: Reece "Pitching Wedge" Conca

Very good again. He has earned his Rd.1 spot but there will be no place to hide on the MCG if his kicks aren't spot on.

Re: Reece "Pitching Wedge" Conca

He can be pretty effective in defence if he has players running to support when he has to kick out of D50. Can't be relied upon to pinpoint passes.

Re: Reece "Pitching Wedge" Conca

He was more than solid this week.

In saying that though, teams aren't dumb and tactics will be drawn up pretty quick to isolate him in D50 and zone off to force him to kick the ball and hit up targets. It is not going to end well and is just asking for disaster playing him in this position.

Probably won't matter much vs Carlton, but will later.

Was Conca our best on the day? It wasn't much of a day. ;D

His long kicking isn't actually too bad, its poor decision making and execution with those short dinky kicks. Thought despite getting 11 touches in the first quarter he was rubbish as was constantly looking for short crappy kicks that put his team mates under pressure. After that I thought he was quite good, but he was looking to kick longer and actually kicked quite well after that. Thats what he needs to do, kick the ball long and open the game up, the total opposite to those stupid 5-10m kicks, if you are going to push the ball 5-10m, then he should handball it.

Re: Reece "Pitching Wedge" Conca

Think you've hit it on the head, Posh. Agree.

Deliberately reserving judgement from viewing JLT 1 & 2 (couldn't see today's game). Most posters down on him again then, but I thought he was generally OK except for those awful dinky passes. Need to see him live in the heat of some real AFL matches, I think, to really decide.

Re: Reece "Pitching Wedge" Conca

I must have watched a different game...

He is at absolute best an average footballer. The problem is he is not at his absolute best very often. Still Dimma loves him so I can look forward to him kicking 8 meter passes to teammates under pressure all season. Terrific.

I've generally been pro Conca, and I think he is better than others on the list- get why many don't. However 100% agree with that Barnzy. His disposal/kicking is prone to breakdown and opposition will target him down back.

Re: Reece "Precision" Conca

One thing that should happen with Conca this year if he stays fit is improvement , his played very little football over the past few years so a bit of continuity no doubt will help, weather he can become a good enough standard AFL footballer remains to be seen, not sure the kicking will ever be brilliant but surely that has to improve to with more footy played.
