Reece Conca - so long and thanks for all the fish

Does he wear footy boots 2 sizes bigger. He kicks like he has clown boots on.

It appears he has been retrained to be the designated kicker in , so that is one spot sewn up in the backline.

Re: Reece "Pitching Wedge" Conca

Not sure why Hardwick keeps persisting with one of the worst kicks in the team as a release player in d50.

I'll cut him some slack tonight as Short plays that role and was missing. Houli also light years ahead in said role.

Surely Hardwick isn't even that dumb.

Re: Reece "Pitching Wedge" Conca

agree, he was OK. Massive reason for us not kicking on after improving has been that the first rounders of Lennon, B Ellis, Conca you could chuck in C Ellis too if you were being harsh, have'nt become guns.

Par would be one gun and one good player out of four.

Above par, that a good side or a side on the rise would get, would be 2 guns and a good player, or 1 gun and 2 good players out of 4.

At this stage I reckon we've got one good player (C Ellis), one OK player (Conca), one depth player (B Ellis) and a bust (Lennon).

This is only my opinion, others might have a bit of a different call, switch RC and BE, put them both in the depth basket, or whatever and I appreciate that. But the point is its below par. One gun and one good solid player out of 4 would have made a massive difference.

Re: Reece "Pitching Wedge" Conca

Looks like a doofus out there. Can see he lacks confidence and just does stupid stuff to often.

His best spot is on the ball. We just have better players available in his position. Needs to be a last resort this year if we are going to be successful.

One of the worst players on our list with the ball in his hand.

Unfortunately he's not the Lone Ranger.
We've got so many turnover merchants on our list, it's beyond a joke.
Will our recruiting gurus ever learn?
Only recruit players who can kick!

Re: Reece "Pitching Wedge" Conca

Watched the game a 2nd time and focused on him back there basically cos' I was working out how the lineup should be with Jayden Short, Houli and Rance coming back in.
Conca only played 3 qtrs and I was really impressed with his defensive nous which I missed on the live feed.
He played as a real leader back there and was directing traffic and even covering the talls at times.
His movement off the ball was excellent and helped slow Adelaide's ball movement which caught me by surprise. Pushed them into tough spots. His acceleration back into dangerous spots caused Adelaide to change their preferred line of attack and that is something Morris, Hunt etc. have always struggled with.

That one kick out of the backline that he shanked was horrible but the rest of his little 30m chips were spot on into good spots.

I look forward to seeing how he goes over the next couple of games because if he can avoid the clanger kicks he looked like he really knew what he was doing defensively.
Just one game - but there just seemed to be "something different".

It actually reminded me of a pre-season Daniel Jackson game in 2013 when a few people just bagged him based on preconceived opinions.

Well Done Jacko. Great Game.
Played his way into a Rd.1 start there.

This is not the same Jacko as last year. He is way more mobile and fitter.
Might surprise a few if he keeps the clangers in check.

Like everyone, I think Conca has been a massive disappointment but if we clean the slate and judge him just on this season he is off to an "interesting" start.

Nice one Juffa, i also thought he had a decent game and think the knocks he gets are a tad harsh at times, he is quick and has decent skills, just want him to have a few years without injuries so he can have a run at it either way..

we will play with a back 7, with one on the bench most of the time.
Rance, Astbury, Grimes, McIntosh, Houli and Short are certs if fit.
Mrakov would be my first pick for that 7th spot, but he was disappointing last night, so maybe it is Conca's.

Contributed. If his body stays sound he will be able to play a role.

No spot for him in the best 22. Especially up back.

Rance Grimes Astbury Short Houli McIntosh Markov.

First 6 are locks and the rebounding types are all significantly more talented and skilled footballers.Unless we run a 8 or 9 man d50.

Re: Reece "Pitching Wedge" Conca

Agree. He just ain't up to it. Seemed to struggle with the pace. And his disposal is woeful.
