Reece Conca - so long and thanks for all the fish

Re: Reece "Squirrel" Conca

The "depth" isn't there. We need one draft that just stockpiles mids.

Three junior mids and a SLR plug and play.

Yep and we still need to find a BIG key defender to play on big forwards. Chaplin was supposed to be that guy but given the way he has been played this year that seems in doubt. Regardless we need more depth down back; we are still too small.

Burge clearly said Conca's injury is a "stress reaction" and not stress fracture, hence the 4-6 weeks as opposed to the 10 weeks for the two cats players in the article.

Doesn't say anywhere in that article Newie that they had stress fractures, just 'mild stress reactions'.

Pooper sure the quality is not there as yet, however I would imagine a list structures are pretty well balanced at this point , we just obviously need more A graders all over the park.

Re: Reece "Squirrel" Conca

Gwad I hope that the rumours that this injury is potentially far more serious is untrue.

What rumour? I assume the rumour is that it's a full blown stress fracture and he will be in a moon boot for an extended time.

If so. Double Buck Fizz.

Spot on Scooper, I mentioned in the off-season that we've made minimal inroads into our deficient midfield stocks and now we're in a situation where a couple of injuries could see the entire season unfold. Our additions were either part-timers or half-glass empty types who do little to solve the ongoing crisis. As much as Vlastuin is a much needed addition, he's simply a replacement for Tuck or Jackson. We overlooked a host of solid mids in the draft, we ignored the state league stocks and we went for questionable retreads.

If Hardwick and the recruitment team continue on this path of neglect, we'll be treading water for a few more seasons yet. The next draft could be the last chance saloon for Hardwick, and he'd better be hoping that a couple of Ollie Wines types can step up almost immediately. Without being labelled a darksider, I'm just not sold on Arnot, Helbig and Nahas being suitable depth players.

Re: Reece "Squirrel" Conca

It's so True Bully. We rattle of a second tier of mids that are mainly forwards who are pinching hitting.

No Tuck, No Conca, No Foley and that second tier is shot. We are back to Edwards, Vlaustin, White and Jackson.

Big chance for Edwards to step out and show he's ready for full time mid work. The rest is too young and not good enough.

Re: Reece "Squirrel" Conca

that 4 week injury he was supposed to have looks like being double that at the least.

this will be the 5th week he's been out with the club saying he's still 2 - 3 weeks away

damn! was showing good signs

positive is he'll still be fresh come the second half of the season i guess

Thought it might be longer. That article re Cats players with similar injuries that I posted about the time it was announced made me think the initial prognosis from our club was extremely conservative. Really disappointing for him to be out.

yea it appears that he is the long term injury peter larkins was talking about

He wasn't talking about any long term injury! I heard the segment on AW.

Re: Reece "Squirrel" Conca

what he's got is a real sh!tty, frustrating injury. will be bugging him no end and there's no easy fix or easing back in, just patience. And the loss of conditioning would be killer too.

Won't be back until after the break imo.

Tend to agree. No rush at this stage. Don't want to make this worse.

But we need him back badly.

Think Edwards has already shown he's ready. Is flying ATM. The rest from Scoop & Bully leysy completely agrees with. We need to delve into the midfield well again, preferably using the State Leagues late on to get some instant depth with upside...(is this a broken record)...

Re: Reece "Squirrel" Conca

Think he will be back before the break. Well, I hope so
