Bad news for conca. He was improving overall. On the other side tho surely Vlas now has to come in

Would've nice to see the big V, Helbig & conca all in the same team

Re: Reece "Squirrel" Conca

hot spots are real annoying. you can run, jump, do whatever. you just feel like gettin' out there but you can't.

and sometimes they are hard to kill.

Re: Reece "Squirrel" Conca

Oh Buck Fizz. Just great.

Just starting to look at home.

This is rubbish.

Disappointing news, smells of bad player management from the medical staff.

So anytime a player gets an injury its because of bad player management by the medical staff?

Poor Daniel Menzel. Continually badly managed by the Geelong medical staff. They should have just told him to retire after his first knee.

Re: Reece "Squirrel" Conca

bad luck for the boy, disappointing that some need to blame the club
at every opportunity, its high impact game and injuries occur.

agree. in some ways he is the player i wouldve least liked to get injured as he is really starting to become a serious mid. im enjoying watching his development.

Re: Reece "Squirrel" Conca

Disappointing for Reece, I'm sure he would have been looking forward to putting in big game and catching up with family over there.

Pretty sure players used to suffer most foot problems pounding the pavement during the summer pre season and training on rock hard grounds as well. Was rare for them to suffer these problems playing on moist spongy grounds during winter.
Grounds are dry heavily drained and surfaced with a thin carpet of grass over packed sand nowadays, there's bugger all spongieness so all the running impact transfers straight through the players feet n calves.
Probably a bit like our race track set up, we rarely have tracks below good to fast, poms n euro's come over in spring n complain our tracks are like concrete compared to what they are accustomed to. Even some of the local trainers *smile* about tracks supposedly rating as good then being uprated to fast after the first couple of races then their horses jar up on the concrete tracks.

"They've both got mild stress reactions in their feet, they're in moonboots and won't be considered for game time for at least 10 weeks, which is potentially a little bit conservative," Scott said.

This was the part I found most interesting and concerning. If Reece's situation is similar his season is just about done. :-\

Re: Reece "Squirrel" Conca

Astbury had the same issue as Reece after NAB 1 though, and he was back out there within 6 weeks. Depends on how early you pick it up I guess, whether it's a hotspot or an actual stress fracture.

Wouldn't conservative in this instance mean they'll probably be back sooner? Maybe he means 'ambitious'?

Re: Reece "Squirrel" Conca

derailed a key player in a critical year in his development, huge loss, extremely disappointing, be unlikely to get back to his best after sitting on his behind for 6 weeks.

The club needs to hire a greyhound "muscleman"! :whistle

4-6 weeks is plenty of time to heal a hot spot or even a fracture.

Re: Reece "Squirrel" Conca

Burge clearly said Conca's injury is a "stress reaction" and not stress fracture, hence the 4-6 weeks as opposed to the 10 weeks for the two cats players in the article.

It is a worry and as someone else pointed out in this thread, Conca has had prior issues with this type of injury from memory which is a major concern IMO.

Just as he was really starting to find his feet (and after a limited pre-season also). Bad timing and a real shame for him and us. Foley can't get fit and come back quick enough now...

My understanding of that is it is soreness in the bone due to flexion or is bone bruising.
How that needs a moon boot and 4-6 weeks is beyond me??? ::)

Re: Reece "Squirrel" Conca

*smile* sake.

Our massively overrated midfield just got weaker.
