Reece Conca - so long and thanks for all the fish

Why do people keep comparing these two? :headscratch

Comes from some Essendon tools laughing at Richmond for taking Conca before Heppel who won the rising star.
Funny enough those people have been very quiet lately

His kicking seems to have have dipped a bit imo. He is a good kick but he seems to be rushing a bit and has developed the Tuck kick and hope style at times recently. I like his ball winning ability but he still has to learn to be a bit more composed with the ball.

He is tough and hard which I really like.

That seems to be infecting the whole team at the moment. Even Grigg has started bombing it which I didn't think was part of his game, but Reece has improved greatly and I'm enjoying watching him.

I think he is learning to adjust to a midfield role and he is probably feeling more inferred pressure than actually exists.
I think you are spot on Lamb. He seems to want to dispose of the ball before he needs to.

He turns 20 this weekend so he has plenty of time to get better at that.

Re: Reece "Squirrel" Conca

Conca, like Ellis is just the type of players the tigers need at the moment - hard at it, take no prisoners. They both have skills which I think will only get better. The last thing they needed was a "softer outside player" at that stage of development. The focus is to build that hard uncomprising culture across the playing group.

Heppell will be a good player but he does tend to hold back at times. Can't compare Conca and Heppell as they are both very different players.

The tigers are now in the position to pick up an outside player like Atley or even a Hepell who would really compliment our in inside mids.

Yep. Chimp rushes plenty of those kicks too in a contested situation.

I would agree with my fellow posters that I think Conca does it unnecessarily more often than Chimp. It’s not something I can prove statistically, it’s just a hunch based on watching them both.

Blasphemy.

Ya can't say that ToOheys, bagging the chimp just not permitted. Go stand in the corner and wash your mouth out with flat warm southwark.
:hihi

Watching heppel tonight, its insulting people think he is better than Conca. I would and have said this countless times, take conca over him anyday.

Heppell hasn't had as noticable a season as the last, but he was still a great get. Not sure it is insulting respecting the attributes Heppell has and comparing these to the great attributes Conca has. They will both end up being quality mids but of varying quality at different times, as indicated on some of the knocks on both (Heppell percieved hardness and Conca's kicking just as an example).

I think both players suit their respective Clubs right now to be honest.

I watched heppell closely yesterday and his chasing and pressure acts were pathetic on the opposition. He let sloane off the hook countless times and then waved his hands and shouted at his teammates when sloane kicked a goal which i thought was truly bad considering it was his opponent. He was great in his first year playing off half back as the loose man but has been found out in the midfield when under pressure.

Wouldn't write him off on the one game you saw though, but understand your crit!

Re: Reece "Squirrel" Conca

By way of comparison...

Conca similar future to Jobe Watson
Heppell likely to be another Gibbs.

Both good at their roles, but the one you'd take depends on your needs at the time.

Re: Reece "Squirrel" Conca

I think the common Richmond supporter on here undersells Heppel a fair bit. Look I'm not a massive fan of Dyson's but he definitely has a future. It's funny that he is commonly refered to as soft on here but I have seen him do some gutsy things in the games I have seen him play.

Re: Reece "Squirrel" Conca

He's definitely got the skill to hurt teams. Conca will end up the better mid though IMO.

Re: Reece "Squirrel" Conca

To many people are trying to give themselves reasons why Conca is better than Heppell to make them feel better.
2 completely different players, back flanker with good skils or an inside mid....we needed another good inside mid so the decision was the right one.
Time to move on.

Re: Reece "Squirrel" Conca

Just needs to kick through the ball a bit more, tends to leab back and do a "Grigg special". Cant complain about him though, finds the footy and generally uses it very well.

Re: Reece "Squirrel" Conca

Two things to work on:

1) Goes to ground too easily in one on one contests.

2) Kicks around corners off a step. Hooks them low and hard.
