PM's husband Tim Mathieson wanted Richmond to snub Tony Abbott

JULIA GILLARD'S PARTNER AND STAUNCH RICHMOND SUPPORTER TIM MATHIESON REPORTEDLY DEMANDED THAT RICHMOND REVOKE TONY ABBOTT'S MATCH DAY PRIVILEGES. PICTURE: DARREN TINDALE HERALD SUN

FREE tickets to Richmond games apparently aren't enough for Julia Gillard's partner, Tim Mathieson.

While most footy fans were focusing on reconciliation and the social and cultural significance of the occasion at last year's Dreamtime game between the Tigers and Essendon, Mathieson was concerned with only one thing - how that pesky Tony Abbott managed to score himself an invite into the Richmond rooms.

The first bloke was so dirty on his own club after seeing opposition leader Abbott taken down into the rooms after the game that he promptly fired off an angry email to Tigers CEO Brendon Gale to complain about it.

The Australian reports Mathieson demanded that Gale raise the matter with Gillard's chief of staff, Ben Hubbard.

"Mate u need to speak with Ben Hubbard on why abbott was taken down to the rooms..." the email raged.

"...it's just not on Who authorised it < it was a shocker it was a Don's function and he should not have gone down there..." he continued.

"...<this sort of crap has to be addressed ASAP <also why the dons had abbott his chief of staff and his 2 daughters on the head table is a disgrace."

So much for peace and understanding.

Just what the hell has this jumped up jerk Mathieson done for Richmond FC. Just because he's a Richmond supporter does not mean he runs the
Richmond FC. In fact this fool should be reminded of that very thing. Mathieson may be the partner of the current Prime Minister but that does
not give him the RIGHT to DICTATE who is allowed into the club rooms.

Just one more reason for me to kick Gillards arse come September 14, clearly her hair dressing partner thinks he is above everyone and everything.

Good to see the Herald Sun reporting accurately too, saying Mathieson is the PMs "husband", news to everyone in Australia, did Gillard have a
secret wedding and more importantly did anyone bother to attend it.

Doesn't sound like it was serious to me.
Serious enough if this fool is telling BG what to do. Mathieson needs a bit of a "reading
the riot act" to.

Or at the very least a breathalyser on his keyboard.

You seem to place a lot of credence on a few snippets the H/S have pilfered from TheAustralian and padded out in an effort to make an article of it. We can't possibly tell from that if it was serious, in jest, a *smile* take with a mate or whatever. The email is obviously edited. We don't know all that was said or the context of it. Well I don't at least. I wonder who leaked it and why. Does the Oz article have the entire contents of the email?

Fair enough Rosy, good question about the email, the article is "locked" in The Australian today, I'll pop down the road later and grab a copy and see what it actually says.

AN email obtained exclusively by The Weekend Australian reveals Julia Gillard's partner, Tim Mathieson, sought to involve her office in pressuring a major sporting club to freeze out Tony Abbott.

After attending an AFL clash at the MCG as a guest of the Richmond Football Club, Mr Mathieson emailed its chief executive, Brendon Gale, copying in the Prime Minister's office, to complain about the Opposition Leader's access to the team's inner sanctum and his prominent seating at a pre-game function.

Mr Mathieson demanded that Mr Gale raise the matter with the Prime Minister's chief of staff, Ben Hubbard.

His fiery outburst occurred on a Sunday evening after the Dreamtime AFL match between Essendon and Richmond on May 19 last year. The Dreamtime game is one of the highlights of the AFL calendar for its social and cultural significance in promoting reconciliation.

"Mate u need to speak with Ben Hubbard on why abboott was taken down to the rooms ... " Mr Mathieson fumed. " ... it's just not on Who authorised it < it was a shocker it was a Don's function and he should not have gone down there

That same weekend Ms Gillard was travelling to Chicago for top-level security talks with Barack Obama and other NATO leaders to plan the withdrawal of troops from Afghanistan.

Ms Gillard's office declined to respond to questions about Mr Mathieson's complaint.

Mr Mathieson is a fanatical supporter of the Richmond "Tigers" while the PM barracks for the Western Bulldogs. They are often seen at games together in their respective club colours.

Richmond has accommodated Mr Mathieson's requests for tickets, hospitality and memorabilia since his move into The Lodge.

At the Dreamtime game in Melbourne, the first bloke invited ABC Insiders host Barrie Cassidy to join him on the Richmond table. Both men visited the Richmond room before the contest, where they crossed paths with Mr Abbott, who was a guest of Essendon's chairman David Evans.

Essendon was hosting the pre-game function for the Dreamtime game and in charge of protocol. The Opposition Leader was accompanied to the event by two of his three daughters and his chief of staff, Peta Credlin.

The rooms for rival teams at the MCG are not far apart and after visiting Essendon players, Mr Abbott was escorted across to the Richmond bunker.

Clubs embrace politicians from all sides of politics and dignitaries who are invited to pre-game functions usually get taken to visit players in the room before the match.

The Weekend Australian understands that Mr Gale responded politely to Mr Mathieson's email protest, explaining that Richmond was staunchly bipartisan and happy to accord Mr Abbott the very same privileges that the Prime Minister's partner enjoyed on a regular basis. He signed off by confirming Mr Mathieson's attendance at an upcoming pre-game cocktail, party in Sydney.

Mr Gale would not comment on the email exchange. "He will not discuss private communications," his spokesman said.

Government sources say Mr Mathieson has a habit of firing off emails and texts to Ms Gillard's personal staff when he senses a perceived injustice. His email to Mr Gale was copied to a senior public servant working in Ms Gillard's office at the time.

It seems like Tim enjoys plenty of club hospitality, memorabilia and free tickets. Are they "demands" or a sign of the club's "goodwill", (just in case some government grants may be on offer.) ;)
Good politicking with whichever government is holding the pursetrings reins

It seems Abbott visited both clubs rooms. I don't see what the big deal is, except for Tim's apparent "distaste" for his partners political opponent. Tim could have shown a bit more tact and grace (if the contents of the email are true) rather than be so petulant. Poor decision making by Tim if he's trying to involve Gillard's office. He's putting his own agenda forward, what happens if Abbott is elected as PM, does he really expect Benny Gale to ban him from the changerooms or club to suit him?
I think Julia needs to send Tim to the "naughty corner" again. Obviously he's got too much time on his hands. Maybe he needs to go and cut hair at the Salvo's or Smith Family homes.

I think its great that our club is getting that much attention. A few years ago I doubt whether many political heavy hitters were fighting over getting access to our inner sanctum.

It's a pity that ABC show isn't on anymore, the material he has been supplying lately is priceless. Tony Abbott had at least as much right to be there as Mr Julia Gillard, having sacrificed his holiday time to work as a teachers aid in remote Aboriginal communities and having pledged to continue doing this a week each year even if he becomes Prime Minister. The hair dresser needs to pull his head in.

Damn.

The Labour Govt now mixed up with my footy club.

*smile* me! The Tigers were the epitome of the Labor Party when they started - it was a working class man's football team..........

Well, if he was in any way serious then there is no chance I'll be voting for Gillard. Can't vote for Abbott either. Bring on the dual leadership challenges quick smart.

Tim " gimme freebies " Whatsisname. What an insignificant piece of flotsam, if he wasn't porking the P.M. he'd be nothing more than an underwhelming miserable middle aged bogan trying to scrape his way through life.
Delusions of grandeur just because he's Joolia's pet.

Gee there are some ordinary posts on here at times. I assume TM that you're not "porking the P.M." Does that make you "an underwhelming miserable middle aged bogan trying to scrape his way through life"? You have a strange set of values. Does "porking" your wife define what you are as a person?
