Pics 15 & 26 ND 2011 - Who should we pick?

Otten is 194 cm ( I was surprised when i looked it up ) .

I think its important these days to have some flankers with size in your backline who can play on talls and smalls . Its why i like the look of our backline with Grimes and Batchelor in it because it allows us flexibility to deal with different types of attacks without changing the structure of the backline.

Is he that sort of back flanker ? What height is Mckenzie ?

188cm. But I feel he will become a midfielder. At the very least he can play up on a wing or push to half-forward but IMO he will be able to spend time in the guts. Good hands in close and agility.

Grigg's positioning and kicking in the SA v WA game was a thing of beauty.

Everything about him points to him being a pure footballer. Lock in Geelong getting their hands on him.

And him being a 200-game gun. Would be happy if we took him at 26 but i think we may go a more outside type.

Two names that get very little mention anywhere who leysy would be very happy to take at 26.

Jordan Murdoch - His ceiling is very very high ILO. Could zoom past a lot of guys taken before him in coming years. Has a lot of traits that will fit in well at AFL level. Would play a role that is very badly needed in our side as well starting as early as next year. Really like him.

Sebastion Ross - Wont be a star (not many will from this crop) but is a better & safer bet to be a good AFL midfielder than many rated before him ILO. Wins his own ball, excellent hands, is a neat left foot kick & hunts the footy. Is a beautiful size - 187cm/82kgs as well.

I agree Big fella, Jordan Murdoch is very underrated and he is who i want with 26! Exactly the type of player we need

Agree. I don't understand the knock on him TBH. What he lacks in pace he makes up for in positioning and execution. Selwood like in that regard.

I would have no issues at all with Grigg at 15. The only possiblpe downside I can think of is that he is from SA and I don't think we've done all that well out of SA in the past decade (albeit I'm highly scarred by the Fiora experience).

Just a little observation here. We have been linked to a couple of tall forwards. Kersten at 15 and Elton at 26. As well as Emma Quayle linking us to Brad McKenzie as a mid at either pick.

Could the options be we take Kersten at 15 then McKenzie at 26 as our preferred but if Kersten is gone we take McKenzie at 15 then settle for Elton at 26.

God Knows. You could come up with 50 combinations for 15/26 and still get it wrong. :hihi :hihi :hihi

Do we need another FF in Kersten? Can he play through the midfield? What's his field kicking like?

Similar to going Conca then Batch last year instead of Heppell which has made sense so far.

I dont know about the merits of individual juniors but would be disappointed if we didnt take 2 midfielders at 15 and 26.
IMO increasing our depth of quality in the midfield should far and away be first priority. Don't worry about outside flair X factor or that you can have too many inside players. There's no such thing when you're trying to climb the ladder. Ball magnets, natural footballers who can buy themselves time and use the ball under pressure are everything for a team like us. Geelong shows you cant have enough of them. I am very wary about using high picks on third tall forwards, small forwards and back pockets.
Do it Francis, you know it makes sense.

Elton will be long gone by 26 I would think we could do better than McKenzie at 15?

We won't take Elton. He is ruck/forward type. Quite different from a Kerston, Haynes, Markworth. Elton is the one that we already have in Griffith and Post.

Agree Lennox but who do you rate best from Kerston, Haynes & Markworth ? I see Haynes as being a taller mid.

Perhaps this kerston rumour might have to do with Adams and moreso Docherty being the only other options we would take at 15.If both are gone we,d have a more than likely chance to snare a Mckenzie/Grigg type at 26 than we would getting kerston at 26

We should be taking no risks and taking the safe option with 15 and 26 hence bolstering our midfield with quality depth as there's no doubt it needs to be addressed. We don't have the luxury to be taking risks at this stage with 1st round picks. Docherty/Adams and Grigg. They seem pretty safe to me. I don't think we can afford to take any sort of project players even with 26 just yet.

We may be scaring Brissy into taking Kersten. If we take Kersten then Freo have to take someone else and are likely to take 2 talls as well as Saints, GWS will likely hav 3 or 4 on the list, Carlton as well. So not much left for Brissy at pick 30 so may have to reach at 12 to get a decent one.

Ah, the old 'safe option' option. I don't know why we just don't pick blokes guaranteed to make it with every selection.
