Well folks we have pic 14, as like last year (Conca) we need to target a skillful mid, preferably a run and carry mid.

Coniglio (i wish, GWS will nab him) other mids I like in no particular order are, Tyson-good build and an elite kick...also greene, smith, Grigg-another I like who can play inside or out and has very good disposal and others being kavanagh, wingard and adams ...

Re: Pic 14 ND 2011 - Who should we pic?

Trade for Zac Clarke.

2nd round as a mid.
3rd will be Morris.
pick up VFL/WAFL/SANFL mid in rookie draft.

first 3 picks next year ALL mids.

we need a couple of ruckmen who can play seniors now, hit it to our players, and play around the ground

we have a really good bunch of young tall keys, and tall mids coming through but don't have rovers, crumbers, 180-183 cm types. The only young smalls we have are Nason and Hicks.

Clarke is contracted and ive been impressed with him and he's young, 21 yrs old

but im leaning towards an A grade mid and we should land one with our pic 14

Lets also utilize the rookie draft like the top clubs do and not waste them on players like hislop and miller

Talk is they will be willing to trade Z.Clarke in order to be able to get M.Clark. May need a 3rd team involved. We would have to send something to Brisbane. Compo or pick 14. Whichever they prefer. Just think its worth doing and getting it over and done with. Z.Clarke will be top 3 or 4 ruck in the league soon. Bonus that he has the tank of a midfielder and has played a bit on the wing.

Either way we would still have 4 top 40 mids without losing anyone we want. If we could get a 2nd rounder for Jacko then id give that pick and compo for him happily. Jackson and Tambling for Z.Clarke and MacDonald. Up to the recruiters whether 14 or compo is more value to us and/or Brisbane. Don't want to see Graham running around.

as much as i want a quality mid with pic 14, if CC and jackson strike a deal with clarke/freo for either pic 14 or our compo ONLY then i wouldn't b against it...

Ahh Daniel Jackson trading, u should read my thread on the rumour file....http://www.puntroadend.com/yabbse/index.php?topic=44497.0

I 2nd that on Graham but what im hearing he's gone regardless!

Heard that from Finey too. 2nd rounder or straight to Freo. Would do a first and 2nd for Clarke provided its for an extra 2nd rounder that we pick up. Not the one we already have.

Re: Pic 14 ND 2011 - Who should we pic?

I really wish melbourne had of gotten over Port because I feel we are still two picks out of the action for one of the premium mids. We need the demons to go after a tall and we need a few guys to bolt into the first round so that we can get a quality mid.

Talent is very thin in this draft....

he means because the comp pick came from Bling

correct. obviously can't trade Bling for Z.Clarke. Crows would be pissed. ;D

Re: Pic 14 ND 2011 - Who should we pic?

I would trade for Z Clarke but also would be looking at pick ing up Maric for a pick around the 50 mark as back up in case Clarke gets injured. Graham might get a similar pick from Port Adelaide as they are desparate also.

Also would get the Fev, imagine having 66 inside 50's to 43 with Fev in the goal square.

Re: Pic 14 ND 2011 - Who should we pic?

What are peoples thoughts on Taylor Adams from the Falcons? Was talking to one of his mates the other night and most clubs have been in touch

We could try. And Adelaide could repay us back the favour later on.

MEETING NEEDS

Meeting needs

By Jason Phelan 3:17 PM Thu 08 Sep, 2011

Here is a snippet from Jason @afl.com.au as he mentions two players the Tigers might select with their pick 14.

Richmond NAB AFL Draft selection No.14

The Tigers' main area of need, the ruck division, looks set to be addressed via the trade period and Damien Hardwick seems pretty happy with his key talls at either end of the ground, so a further injection of midfield class is on the cards. SA left footer Brad McKenzie may still available, but Western Jets midfielder Elliot Kavanagh would also fit the bill nicely. He's a tough competitor who was slowed by a serious hamstring complaint earlier in the year and didn't take part in the championships as a result. He showed he was on his way back to his best with 23 possessions against the Falcons late in the season. He can play inside and out and his addition would give the Tigers' onball brigade a potency and depth that would carry the club onto bigger and better things.

I looked up youtube and here is a link for Brad Mckenzie. It wasn't much of one.

I had a look also at Elliot Kavanagh too. These are his details. I was unable to find any highlights.

Here is a write up about where Sheehan comments about him and other medium sized midfielders.

Combine medium mids named
By Jason Phelan 3:29 PM Tue 16 Aug, 2011

THE WESTERN Jets' Elliott Kavanagh will have a chance to enhance his first-round credentials at the 20011 NAB AFL Draft Combine in October.

Kavanagh has been dogged by persistent hamstring injuries this year and didn't take part in the NAB AFL Under-18 Championships, but was part of the group of medium midfielders, released on Tuesday, invited to the combine.

The 185cm onballer played the first of two TAC Cup games for the Jets this season in July and is something of an unknown property in terms of his draft standing.

His performances as an under-age player at last year's championships stamped him as first-round quality, but AFL recruiters will keenly observe his efforts in the coming weeks in the TAC Cup and at the combine in a bid to ascertain whether he has maintained that rating.

"Kavanagh is certainly one to watch because he is an exciting prospect," AFL national talent manager Kevin Sheehan said.

"He's got all of the assets that the clubs are after - the pace, the ability to use the ball well and he's a lovely size to play through the midfield.

"He's had a pretty hectic month trying to make up for lost time playing some rep games and back with the Jets. He's overcome that hamstring issue and there will be a lot of interest in how he finishes off the year."

There is always plenty of interest in the medium midfielders' group at the combine given its track record of producing top-end talent.

"Four of the last six number-one choices in the NAB AFL Draft have been medium midfielders," Sheehan said.

"Carlton's Marc Murphy (2005) and Bryce Gibbs (2006), along with Melbourne's Tom Scully (2009) and Gold Coast Suns' David Swallow (2010) [were all] selected as the best young player in the country."

The national list of medium midfielders includes 11 players from Victoria, three from South Australia, one from Western Australia and one from Tasmania.

A further 31 medium midfielders will attend state draft combines in Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth in October.

This year's national combine kicks off at Etihad Stadium in Melbourne on Monday October 4 with the testing to be conducted on an athletic floor, purpose-built in Germany, that will be lowered onto the stadium's surface.

Good. Instead of holding it inside, we hold it outside on grass in a stadium with a retractable roof, on an artificial floor covering the grass.

That's logical.

Goes well with attaching rooster cells to hamstrings in Germany; fitness training in Arizona, and getting soccer players from Ireland.

The AFL is off the planet.

Re: MEETING NEEDS

My gut feeling is Kavanagh will be gone as will Mitchell Grigg, Toby Greene is the most likely to slip down the order and would be a safe pick and a nice replacement for Jackson. Sumner and McKenzie are no certainties to be bonafide midfielders and this must be at the heart of our decision. Greene is a no-frills ball magnet and a true inside mid who would compliment our existing A-team nicely.

Re: MEETING NEEDS

Kavanagh is likely to slip in my opinion, he'll will miss again this weekend as he isn't named to play, He missed last week after only playing one half because he suffered a corkie.

I think his workload is being carefully managed while returning from his injury. It wouldn't surprise me if he is being consulted by an AFL club doctor and being told not to play to ready him for an AFL pre-season.

It will be interesting to see if his absence from the u/18 carnival makes a big difference, he has a big following amongst some of the recruiters and is seen as a guy who has a huge upside. Some believe he's top 5 quality so I doubt it will be a case of slipping under the radar, guys like Greene and Crozier are my tips to be the big sliders.
