Pick 9 ND 2012 – Who should we pick?

As it stands we are likely to have pic 9 taking into account PP's (if it changes ill edit this thread)

As we all know we need mids and more mids....my 2 choices are Oliver Wines (Vic) and Ben Kennedy (SA)

Wines would be a great get for us 6ft 1" and over 80kgs, he’s well skilled and strong at the contest has a bit of Martin strength about him and Cotchin competitiveness...speed is ok too....

Kennedy can snag a goal from anywhere and has very good speed, lovely left foot kick with sublime skills...still light but looks to have that body type where he’ll put it on, his height however not sure how much taller he will get to as he’s only 174 cms maybe max 178 (5ft 10”) but can weave through traffic and has strength even though he’s not overly built....

PS: Can someone like Toumpas slip? Class act!!!

Ben Kennedy is actually quite nuggety, at 76 kg I wouldn't be putting on a lot of extra mass.

Anyone know the likely order of the first dozen or so picks? (Including all the activated compo picks)

Also, would anyone have any links to some footage of this years prospective first round draftees? I haven't really been following any u18 footy over the past couple of years.

Who is in the frame at our pick? Who would be our "Francis Jackson" type selection out of this years batch?

Seems a likely type to, pretty sure tigs2010 rates him highly....

just more kids that can kick under pressure, decent size, decent tank and no project players at pick 9. Nothing wrong in adding another gem in the middle.!!

Cant go wrong with any of those mentioned, 3 pics in the top 30 is awesome cant wait for the draft & free agency and trades....would a Nahas be put up for trade (2nd rounder) to a GWS etc as we have Chris Knights coming in this would give us 4 pics within the top 30, magical ;D

I can't see Kennedy falling to us.

I can, Prestia, Smith and Rioli were all around the mark, if he goes earlier it won't be by much.

Highly touted mid so yes its possible u could b snapped up but on the flip side its quite possible he could fall to our pick....

Just thinking out loud here but for some reason I feel the club is keen on Nick Vlastuin? so would it be worth maybe downgrading pick 9 say to Melbourne's pick 13 and getting something else thrown in? Not sure what exactly maybe also their 3rd round for our 4th or somehow get a young ruck from GC in part of a deal for Melbourne to get caddy?

All depends on who the club really want I suppose

Isn't Vlastuin a back flanker, or I am over getting him mixed up with somebody else? After drafting Ellis and Bachelor, I wouldn't have thought this was our first priority

To downgrade from 9 to 13 you'd want something more than a pointless 3rd rounder. You'd be asking for their 2nd rounder and then maybe a 3rd round upgrade. It's a fair downgrade from that position.

Had another look at Vic C v SA yesterday.

I don't see the love for Kennedy. Yes he has a long boot on him. But invariably it would be a long kick to a nothing option. Doesn't have elite pace for a 173cm player. Seemed to be under pressure whenever he got the ball.

The two players I love from this game that are a chance of being around at our pick are:

Oliver Wines - looks like another Dusty. Hard at it but lethal in the open.

Sam Mayes - I'm hesitant to like an outside runner from SA (Fiora memories) but this guy is a smooth mover, oozes class. Spreads immaculately which is so important in the modern game. Ryan Griffen like.

I will watch the Vic M v WA game again on the weekend and will see who from that game may be best suited around our pick.
