Pick 63, 2017 Ben Miller - Welcome to Tigerland.

He's quick and skillful enough to play third tall. I think that's his best chance. But definitely back.
I had him as my most improved last summer coming into this season.
He had a shitt season, he played ok in patches and then went back into his No presence, No influence Miller again.
Finger's crossed Yze can get the best out of him because they can't be anymore chances.

I think the biggest issue with him is that he doesn't seem to know how to get to the contest.

It is a critical skill, knowing when to commit to the current contest, and when to bypass it and look to be at the next contest.

I am not sure you can really learn it once you are of AFL age.

Disagree. One of Ben’s talents is his understanding of when he can safely leave his opponent and make the next contest and when he cannot.
His efforts at getting there and spoiling when the ball is coming in high have been pretty good. His decision
making on going in or playing outside when the ball is on the ground have often left him looking lost.
He is now around 200cm 95k plus and runs like the wind. Needs to go in hard and take possession come what may.

Trouble for Miller is that Young has surpassed him and he (Miller) is no forward. He’s probably fourth in line for ruck duties. I reckon, bar a terribly long injury list, it’s another season of limited opportunity.

That's cool, but he spends a massive amount of time in no mans land. I get that he spoils and kills the ball in the air, but that is about all we are going to get I think. And the issue for me is that I feel he only gets to spoil because the contest comes to him, either by high balls forward or following his man to the contest. That makes him a very limited player in modern footy.

I had very high hopes for Miller, being a WA boy and all.

But I agree with @Little Ziggyadee's earlier post. I thought he was set for a break out season in 2023 and we didn't get it despite the opportunities available.

I still hope he makes it, but I now have serious reservations.

That is the trouble with Ben, he has all the tools except some aggression on the field. I just don't see him ever being able to take the game on in that way. a pity but it is not in his nature
This. Just another in a long line of talls that doesn't play with enough aggression & intensity for long enough.
I actually think Miller has some great weapons but seemingly doesn't have the confidence in himself to use them.
If Yze can somehow get him to the right headspace mentally then there may be a glimmer of hope but agree with others that last year was his chance & he didn't take it. Others surpassed him. Long shot now.

Sampson isn't any better apprantly the tackle by Kosi wasn't bad but it took the gas out of him.
Sampson plays nice too..i can't see him as a scary proposition for the opposition

I think Miller and a few other younger players have spent their entire time at the club living in the shadows of our premiership winning stars. It's made them a bit meek for want of a better word. Whilst many of our older players have left over the last few years, the retirements of Cotch and Jack mean that our premiership era is officially over. I'm hoping that they come out of their shells and fill the void this year and if they don't then it will be time to move on.

With you ToO. I have pumping his tyres for quite a few seasons but even my support is wearing thin. As you say maybe Adem can make is brain work but if not, what a waste

Coming into his 7th season with no clear position and barely on the fringe of our best 25. Terrible list management to have kept Miller around this long. Hartley and co should be copping a lot more heat for this than they have to date.

Disagree! He costs bugger all and can pinch hit when we have injuries.

Agree. Hope Ben Miller can do the same.
I'd want Miller to play more than one good innings before we get off his back.
He's got no runs on the board.
No doubt he has the tools to make our first 11 - he's quick but lacks venom.
Does he do enough?
Can he handle the rough stuff?
Can he be more than a pinch hitter, stop gap, half-rounder
I think Mcdonald and Yze have to get more out of him
