Pick 33 Discussion

Yeah, I mean more so if the obvious ones are gone then those two would be good gets regardless IMO.

It get's complicated because much will depend on who we pick at 12. This is how I would like to see things pan out -

Cockatoo, McKenzie/Webb/Cavka/DVR

Weller/Duggan, Neal-Bullen/Miller/Gore

My ideal combo here is Weller at 12 and Neal-Bullen at 33. Perfect combination of outside class, speed, creativity and inside poise and strength. Probably wishful thinking as the Saints have been strongly linked to NB at 21-22. Weller and Gore would be nearly as good though.

Why though Bully. Its often quoted on here but Leysy just doesn't understand this line of thinking.

The need for speed Leysy, we both agree that it's now or never. I may be well off the mark here but my feeling is the quality speedsters will be off the board by 33, that's why I'm inclined to secure one early.

Weller. Cockatoo, Laverde & Pickett are my A-graders

Garlett, Menadue & McKenzie are next in line but will probably go between 20-30. I suspect the value will lie in the inside mids, Miller, Gore, Blakley, Neal-Bullen etc. One is sure to slide out to pick 33.

My next tier of speedsters are McGrath, Boekhorst, Saad & Drummond. My gut feeling is one will be available at 52.

So our net haul will be 2 speedsters & one inside mid, I think that's about right from a list management perspective. If we go with an inside mid early I think we aren't playing the odds and getting maximum value. I maybe wrong but that's how I see things panning out.

Emma Q saying she thinks Lamb could be available at the Dockers 34. I would love if we took the chance at 33. He looks extreamly talented.

I think I would roll the dice and Lamb too, he can make some mistakes on the football field but has tons of natural talent. He's one of those guys who could just click and then he becomes an A-grade talent.

If Lamb is available we must select him no matter what, I personally cant see him going past both the Doggies selections but should be gone by the time StKilda have their 2 picks with 21/22

Agree, Lamb could be a massive steal.

The ones linked to the Doggies have been Vickers-Willis, Daniel McKenzie & Lukas Webb. St Kilda have been strongly linked to Neal-Bullen & Reece McKenzie. Carlton are firming to take Boekhorst at 28, if not then Collingwood at 30 stands a chance. Lamb is looking like a real slider, I have a feeling he might be on the board and I would take him, particularly if Miller goes to Hawthorn as expected.

Most of the links to the player you mentioned are on the basis that Lamb is already gone, But if still available he would be taken i imagine

I would take lamb over Miller 9/10 times his upside is massive and could be a Fyffe type of bargain in the future , You dont let that chance go begging

He could go anywhere from 15-35, it's really a raffle. There's others like Maynard & Cavka who will also feature in the top 30. Nothing is certain and Lamb doesn't come without risk, he can do the sublime and then undo all the good work with some sloppy disposal. It all depends on how clubs view his upside and whether his faults can be ironed out. I'd be willing to back him in because he looked good against the bigger bodies, his performance was unpredictable and contained several examples of his superb athleticism. There will be many clubs turned off by his low DE so he stands every chance of drifting down the order.

If we want Gore it's looking like pick 33 or nothing. Could be some interesting sliders though, we will likely have some very good choices.

I'm no on Lamb. Seen too many like him fail. Stepehn Gartner, Kieran Harper, Troy Taylor.

Yeah I've been thinking a bit about it as well and I've come to the same conclusion. When coaches and journos say "he can get down on himself"
I think thats code for "he cracks the sh!ts in the middle of a game"

Reckon Lamb is a superior athlete to all those blokes, he also gets more of the leather than that batch. His challenge will be to eliminate the frequent brain fades, his footy IQ can be awful at times. I wouldn't use a top 20 pick but 33 seems fair value.

No footballing IQ. You can't teach that.

No player before pick 50, will be taken without footballing IQ.

Would take at 52.

It's an amazing thing the footballing IQ or footy brain , with all the coaching players only really ever show marginal game nous improvement, that split second instinct they will never have really shows up at the top level, I have not seen Lamb whatsoever Scooper but totally agree with what you say about that type...I did see that Quail rates him well so that's a possitive if he did end up at Punt road

Lamb I put in the Spencer White category, he was also an uncut diamond with extreme athletic abilites. White went at 25 in his draft year, I expect Lamb to be in that ballpark. I did happen to see White's two games this year and he looks to be progressing really well, he still has some way to go but the talent is clearly evident. The other issue with Lamb will be containing his extroverted nature, both he and Reece McKenzie come with several buyer beware clauses, in Lamb's case it may see him drift out into the thirties. Both players have been labeled as somewhat rebellious so will need very strong cultural boundaries. I have heard St Kilda & Essendon are keen, I don't like either of the clubs as being a good fit. Lamb needs Geelong or Hawthorn to make a play, even Richmond could get the best out of him.
