Pick 12 discussion.

Re: Looks like Pick 10

I know we need a 3rd fwd type, a real inside mid and also a nippy fwd pocket/HF but if there is a position i would really like is an old fashioned wingman... Someone with real pace, not just above avg but pace to burn who puts ball under the arm and basically hugs the boundry blows away the opposition and delivers into F50...

Not a HBer that plays like a winger nor a midfielder who can play on the wing..... i want Wells but better...

Where can i get one of those...

Maybe someone like Dwayne Wilson?

Re: Looks like Pick 10

The more I hear of bontempelli the more I like. Is now 194cm worked his ass off last preseason to get fit enough for a midfield role. Can gallop and fill a lot of positions. Is he too much of a reach for our first pick? Just wanted to know because I think he has the most upside of the first round options which I think we could afford to take.

His endurance results were really impressive and at 193cm he has the potential to nail down a key position post. I have him in the top ten now so I doubt we'll get a sniff, but you are correct in saying he has huge upside, he could well be the protoype modern footballer capable of playing anywhere on the park.

Re: Looks like Pick 10

I have no idea about the under 18 kids but the name Tsitas pops up on all of the combine results eg beep, endurance, sprint etc

A must get if he's around at our second pick, I think he'll be the standard slider in the Parker tradition. He's very blue collar, nothing flashy but he's an in and under specialist with an appetite for the contest. He's also an AIS boy, club co-captain and has the capability of racking up 40 possessions plus. In a midfielders draft, he will go somewhere between 20-40, and would be a bargain if he was available at our 2nd pick.

Dare I say he could be a richo or clay type winger. If he lasts to our pick I hope we take him. Sounds like kpf or kpd could be a waste for him.

He can take a contested mark so CHF/CHB wouldn't be out the question. As a winger he would be a nightmarish match-up, he can break the lines and is a lovely kick, think Andrew Embley in his prime. His inside game is still a work in progress but he's shown a decent amount of improvement over the past 12 months. He's also Dal Santo's cousin so he's got the bloodlines, I'm pretty certain he'll make it at AFL level, just where seems to be the million dollar question.

Re: Looks like Pick 10

Is the freeman being bandied as first round the same one I think Brisbane have nominated as an academy pick?

On us drafting an Eddie betts goal sneak. What's the general thought: do you draft a proven small forward or do you draft a goal kicking mid and play him in the FP, or do you draft best available mid and recast an existing mid (Ellis for eg) as the small forward we need?

Sounds good and has good results. We shall wait and see!

Different Freeman, so we're still a chance for Nathan Freeman, although Collingwood may have different ideas.

All valid propositions. If we landed Lewis Taylor, I think we could play him as a rotating FP/midfielder. If not, then we should be looking at Kennedy-Harris, Wilson or Impey to fulfil the role. All these permutations come down to who we select first, at the moment I still think we should grab whoever is remaining out of Lennon, Freeman, Salem & Taylor.

Re: Looks like Pick 10

Phantom draft by Callum Twomey has us taking Salem at pick 11.

Re: Looks like Pick 10

Geez, if Bontempelli's still on the board I hope we pull the trigger.

Thanks BH. I think we finally can take a real risk with our first pick. Bontempelli is that risk and I hope we take him so we play him on a wing. Ellis on one and bontempelli on the other wing. Such marking strength!

Re: Looks like Pick 10

Botempelli could be anything, including a key forward. I hope that excites FJ rather than puts him off.

Or Cale Morton :-\

Morton was/is a squib, no comparison really. At this stage it's hard to place a label on him because it's pure speculation as to where he'll play. At 190cm I had him marked down in a Birchall role, now he's grown an inch he could become a Scott Lucas type, handy at both ends with a very good skill set. Contested marking, kicking, endurance, leap and an ability to break the lines all get a big tick, the last remaining question mark comes down to his physicality, which will also lends itself to a more accomplished inside game. If he can put on another 10kg without compromising any other areas of his skill set, then he represents a highly valuable commodity.
