Pick 12 discussion.

the skinny dude on the AFL website ranks Lennon as 7th best player in the draft.

Salem has been my number 1 choice since day 1, I would be absolutely stoked with that result. He is one of the most complete players in the draft, is a beautiful kick, cool under pressure and Mr Flexibility. Should I be cracking the champagne bottles yet?

From following you guys & reading the papers - I think the only certainty is Tom Boyd at 1.

Based on nothing more than the AFL web site videos I agree with this assessment!

It's certainly unpredictable, I guess it just goes to show the evenness of the draft.

From the highlights I think Lennon has Salem and Freeman covered

Zak Jones is the above prototype for leysy.

Leysy has him a clear notch above other more highly touted types like Freeman & Taylor. Would mush prefer we take him if it came to those three at 12.

From 'Supercoach Paige' just now on Twitter..

Zak Jones described by a recruiter as "a maniac, a competitive beast who not only offers grunt, but finesse, polish and a whopping kick."

Sounds like a Francis special. Could be onto something Daisy.

Salem trumps Lennon for fitness, flexibility and arguably kicking. On this last point, Lennon has the distance but Salem has the smarts and the efficiency, he can thread the needle and do it at a rate of knots. Given Salem can play midfield I think it's a no brainer that we select him over Lennon, he may not be in the same league overhead, but he's pretty damn good just the same. Get it done FJ!

Interesting, Sheed is definitely the safe bet, but I think the other two have a higher ceiling if all goes to plan. Aish at Collingwood would just about seal it for me, at the Doggies I'm not so sure. However, Ryan Griffen was more of an outsider and he's taken his game to the next level so you never know. It will be interesting to see how this all unfolds.

I don't get the safe talk around Sheed. I think he is at the very least a top 5 player in this draft. For me he is a classier Reece Conca. Inside out footballer who kicks it superbly and kicks goals. The Saints & Dogs would be made to pass.

It's not just the Dogs & Saints, it's the whole top ten. I like Sheed, I think he'll be a quality performer over a very long time but I just question how much upside he has. You mention he kicks goals but aside from the u/18 carnival he hasn't been a noted goal kicker. Perhaps a sign of things to come? Maybe, but I prefer Salem in the role of goal kicker, I think he'll be a genuinely dangerous forward in the AFL. He's also a better kick than Sheed, he gets from A to B much quicker, whereas Sheed has a tendency deliver loopy kicks which hang in the air. Salem is also faster, better overhead and more agile. His inside game isn't as developed as Sheed so there's still scope for improvement, but defensively Salem has it all over Dom. Five tackles to one on average, that's significant and represents something we have in short supply at Richmond.

Is it just me or is this the most unpredictable draft of recent years?

Usually at this time of the year just about every one knows which team will pick who (in the top ten at least).

It seems to change daily, I just hope the Doggies pick Bontempelli because the whole draft blows wide open.

No way Salem gets to our pick.

He does if Collingwood go the Aish/Schareberg double. The Freeman to Melbourne rumour has been in full swing now, the only hitch will be Brisbane picking Freeman instead, in which case Melbourne will take Salem.

I too have Salem as my first pick. Apart from the skills he is quick and a very good tackler and pressurer, both things we need to compliment and round out our mid. Hope he is there at 12

My concern is that Salem averaged only 15 touches in his 4 U18 carnival games. Pretty low numbers for a mid, we don't need another SEdwards who struggles to get over 20 possessions as a midfielder. Did Salem make the AA team?
