On the couch

My wife knows very little about footy.

She can pick a bullshitter from a mile away though and Hardwick lasted about two minutes.

didn't offer any insights at all. a pointless exercise.

not sure why he does this media stuff.

What do you want him to say? - tell the world how the inner machinations of the RFC Football department work. That would be excellent football intelligence for the opposition to use on game day.

Hardwick would be doing the RFC, Members and supporters a disservice if he blurted out on national TV what our standards are - what our future is etc. etc.

The media is a conduit between the club and the outer world - not just the fans and supporters. Further the media is always looking to sensationalize any news to attract attention to itself. Hardwick handled himself OK in this interview.

Whilst there is only one measurement of success in football - a premiership - please remember most of the supporters and fans on PRE were lauding Hardwick and the team during the final home and away games last year with speculation on how far we could go into the finals.

Times change - Hardwick and the team will adapt and find success - this week's game against Port is important to build momentum from last week's win over the Pies.

Cut Hardwick and the team some slack - if by the end of the year the Tigers are languishing in the middle or down the bottom of the table then hang him.

PS Remember it took Bomber Thompson almost 10 years to get a Geelong Premiership!

Yeah, yeah ;D

I have no problem with tight lipped coaches.

But dimma takes cardboard responses to a whole new level.

I've noticed Gerard Healy not only asked what he thought was a hard-hitting question about 'The Richmond Way' on On the Coach, but he followed it up the next morning when interviewing Maric on radio. Blurted out 'are you still heading north or is the graph heading sss... mumble'. I think he wants specific answers and hates how general and vague the club's message has been. He thinks we're talking *smile* IMO. Doesn't buy us saying "it exists, but we can't tell you".

From what I can gather, the Richmond Way has seemed like an in-house Bible everyone must follow, an agreed set of values to live by that will ultimately lead to success. Not sure why Healy expects a detailed response, but he seems to take the public definition at face value and thinks his questioning is calling us out as imposters. Don't like his attitude (if I'm reading it correctly).

"The Richmond Way" sounds like something Gerard Murphy might have introduced as part of his leadership work as a consultant.

Notice the collingwood player interviewed at half time last week, ( Goldsack? I forget who it was), trotted out the 'we didn't play the collingwood way that quarter". I think its just generic footy club stuff myself

If you're going to publicly brand everything the 'The Richmond Way' then expect people to question what it is otherwise just keep it behind doors.
Personally I can't stand the slogan when used by the coach. Just hollow rhetoric that papers over problems when things aren't working.
If they have a set of values internally that's great, just stick by it and keep it internal.
Just don't market me with it cause it smells like BS.

BUT.............................................

If we win a flag, THE RICHMOND WAY t-shirts and hoodies with retro tiger's head print will bloody fly off the shelves! ;D

Have to agree with this. Just never answers questions with any real confidence.

That answer to what is " the Richmond way" was very awkward and slightly embarrassing in my opinion

"The Richmond way" sounds like a concerted effort to get some sort of catchphrase like Sydneys "Bloods spirit" ( or whatever they say up there)

I'm pretty sure Hardwick wishes he's never uttered the words the Richmond Way. It was a very standard On The Couch interview and I couldn't really see much different between how Hardwick handled it, to how any other senior coach that they get on the show did. I find you get better insights from Buckley (especially Buckley, he's extremely candid) and Roos on 360 each Monday night.

Can she coach?

Dunno why people are hung up on it myself, the On the Coutch interview. As Jack said 'I won't say anything in case I say something'. Has always been the way and always will. Talk only about stuff you can't hide and people already know anyway.

Having said that though, Dimma has annoyed me in press conferences when he spouts meanigless stats. But the OTC interview was just bread and butter

What a load of crap. That type of stuff happens in sport at all levels. His answer was fine, why shouldhe give our set of values out for the public? We had something similar for cricket at amateur level, it isn't rocket science.

His response to the scoring from the back half was my only concern from that interview. Seems that is how most teams score against us that way too. Im allfor keeping the ball in my forward 50, but if scoring that way works I don't see it as an issue necessarily.

it was a run of the mill interview with no real depth. a little bit of personality with a lot of coach.

re: scoring - i would've thought scoring was good no matter how you did it. that is the point, or goal, of the game...
