Noah Balta - Welcome to Tigerland

Sounds like the club think we can't play Nank, Lynch and Balta in the one side. Not sure I agree due to the flexibility that Balta adds but I guess they are thinking 2 extra talls is a greater departure from our successful structure over the past couple of years.

I think well spend the first half of the season continuing to lead the competition to midgetopia, and then turn sharply towards the land of the giants.

I expect notorius to become a feature from round 10 onwards

Balta is a different type of tall.

He potentially gives us a player like Cripps, Bontompelli or Fyfe.

He can play back, ruck, forward or on a wing and considering that Grigg and Caddy wont play I would have thought he would be a great option.

Yeah did Hardwick ever specifically say he wouldn’t play Jack, Lynch and Balta together? Or did he just say he wouldn’t play two rucks? I would think ‘Two ruckmen’ - suggests Soldo more than Balta. Balta’s athleticism, marking and flexibility gives us great option as a second ruck chop out who can go fwd, wing or back.

Yep, I reckon hs is a monty to play. Start on the bench and just let loose across the ground and then to spell Nank, Lynch takes the forward 50 throws in and ballups.

Not in so many words. He did say things like:

"What he is, is he's very raw. Once we refine him into the player we think he can be, we think he's going to be a very good long-term player.

"Is it going to be this year? Who knows? We hope so. But it might be 12 months down the track."

Dimma in his conservative way is unlikely to throw a "potential" player into the mix, let alone in circumstances where we have played a small team for 2 years and are likely to be bringing Lynch in first up.

Also, I do recall Balme saying on KB's show that we are unlikely to play 2 extra talls.

I want Balta to play. I just think everything points to him spending a bit more time developing in the 2s

His game against Hawthorn was average at best.
Im not on the Balta bandwagon. This all sounds too similar to the guns previously in his postion.
Moore, Griffens, Elton, McBean, Post, Francis, McKee, Homewood, Elser
We cant develop talls.

Argh, Jayden Post.

Was dubbed "Baby Richo" IIRC! :hihi

Don't put him in as only a forward or defender.

Put him on the bench and have him relieving up forward or back if needed, and even a run on the ball or wing.

Use him as Griggs replacement rather than Lynchs.

Thats how I seem him. More a alternative Grigg option than competing with with Jack/Tom. Grigg has a massive tank and can find the ball 25 times quiet often but Balta has the potential to impact more / do game changing "things". Might not be Round 1 but I suspect we will see Balta, Nank, Tom and Jack play together at some point in 2019.

Spot on, he's the perfect player to have on the bench.

I will put up a left field theory as to holding Balta back in the two's for most of the year.

If Balta develops too fast and his form demands a place in the seniors and he becomes an integral part of our team this year, what happens when contract negotiations take place?

If he is worthy of 500k per season due to his form for the next two years and all we have budgeted for is 250k we are stuffed big time.

We will have two choices, trade off a decent player to free up space or trade off Balta.

I am not suggesting this is anything but a left field theory but stranger thing have happened in the AFL.

I'd doubt we'd do that, especially being in our window.

Yep very left field. Would be a quite unprofessional approach. IF Balta doesn't get early games and he rips up the VFL I just can't see him being held back for the sake of a few dollars.

Esker! You’re honestly using his name as an example? He finished playing for the Tigers over 25 years ago. May as well throw Lounder and maybe Jeff Hogg in there as well.

We have possibly the best key forward and back players in the league. Reckon we've come out pretty well overall. Every club is littered with young talls that didn't make the grade. Very hit and miss. Very few get taken early in a draft. All those guys mentioned were picked at; Griffiths Rd2#19, Elton Rd1#26, McBean Rd2#33, Post Rd2#26, Francis , McKee #55 (22 years ago), Esler (lol).

You've missed a few on your list btw all 193cm or taller; Andrew Browne, Lounder, Derrickx, Orren Stephenson, Pattison, Laffy, David Bourke, Jurica, Polak (tragic), Cleve Hughes, David Gourdis
