Noah Balta - Welcome to Tigerland

There is a clip on todays game on the RFC website

Balta is really exciting
Soldo looking like a beast foward and even does a around the corner snap

Chol , There is a passage of play where you just think -WOW
If Chol could just improve his tank and get more aggressive his athleticism is amazing

What a tease

But Balta is the Man

2nd ruck and extra utility imo. He has the athletic ability to negate opposition rucks which is really all we need and he is not a liability when the ball hits the ground like some others may be.

Genuine swingman is his role going forward

The best part is that he has only just turned 19

With Grigg struggling with some injury looks like a straight swap for mine. Ruck/utility. Maybe push Shorty or Houli on to the wing and unleash Noah everywhere else.

Just watched the first half of the praccie match. Did some nice things did Balta. Thought when in the ruck he provided the hardest competition for Ivan. Will be very green but definite potential as the chop-out ruckman for Nanks.

Is his body ready - Kruz and Grund will knock him around I reckon.

We will miss Grigg’s tank as he is one of our gut runners

Balta is beast physically and athletically. Where he get done over by Grundy et al is height and not as much experience.

But reckon he will give a great contest in the ruck and around the ground.

Won’t have the gut running of Grigg but will have far greater penetration with his burst of speed and monster kicks.

If Ellis and K Mac play in the starting 22, with Ellis playing wing as suggested, we have some elite endurance runners in the team. Grigg does some smart 1% things that go unnoticed often. I'd like to see Blata have a crack, for a zero gamer he certainly has a level of expectation (from us anyway) to do something special from the word go. Let the kid get 20-40 games under his belt, we are possibly looking at 2021-22 when we see him realize his potential.

Whilst I share your enthusiasm, Grundy is 200cm, 10kg heavier, and 6 years older. Will rag doll and molest Balta in centre square and around the ground ruck contests all day long.
Same goes for Gawn and Pruest
Lets hope we don't damage our prized possession.
Do we have an alternative? Well at least Lynch is 200cm and has endurance

If you cant get away with in a sacritsy, id say youde come unstuck in the middle of the MCG.

I’m not excited by the prospect of Moore but what I’ve seen from Balta reminds me of a ‘Kouta’ like footballer

Thought Balta competed well against Ivan when asked to, probably the best of the rest. Typically a backup ruckman is going to spend quite a bit of their time competing against the opposition's 2nd ruckman while their 1st ruckman rests. As a backup ruckman I think Balta has huge potential as he is also potent when the ball hits the ground. But yes we do have to temper the workload and expectations at this stage of his career.

He really just has to bring it to ground and prevent the oppo from grabbing it out of the ruck or getting clean hit outs for 20% game time. For the rest of the time we have another gazelle - a big and unpredictable one at that.

Problem is Nanks couldn't stop the gun ruckmen and he"s a bona fide brute. Watching Grundy taking clean possession and either kicking the goal himself or shoving it down the throat of his onballers made me sick in the Prelim.

Yeah, thinking Balta can nullify some of these big beasts is pretty laughable. He'd be broken in half by Grundy.

I’d definitely have him in the 22 , still think his best footy will be out of the back half, however his such a unique beast that will have a big influence in some games along with a few quiet ones. With how much time Nank rucks for I doubt Balta would have to many centre bounce contests against the oppositions number 1 ruck.

Balta has a better chance of nullifying Grundy/Cox than Grigg ever did, and would be more dynamic around the ground than Soldo. We're talking 20% game time here: 20 minutes, or 5/quarter. The rest of the time he's disruptive.

Lynch, Jack, and Soldo or Balta. My vote is Balta.

No-one could really stop Grundy in flight all season. You have to counteract his dominance in other ways.
