Noah Balta - Welcome to Tigerland

I too thought Balta is best down back..but..he was sensational yesterday. Totally changed the look of our forward line.
He lead hard and for once...we did not have to bomb it long..we had a big fast leading target.
Not since Richo has this been so.
It was a breath of fresh air.
He has flaws but...he can learn the craft or play high just leading and marking. We looked much better going inside 50. He was a serious threat.
Gibcus will be a great tall back..not quick enough as a lead up forward.
Lynch deep. Balta high.
Gibcus and Young back..Young was good yesterday. ..and we need to find another tall back. That is easier and cheaper than finding a tall leading forward.
Find a tall defender and we will look complete at both ends.
I am sold on Balta as a CHF.
PS..If K Smith and Brown come on down back , with Banks and Coulthard ...we will be even better. Really need transitional run and overlap.

Bauer third tall down back. Played his best footy there in the reserves.

With Grimes, Broad and Vlastuin on the downslope of their careers I can't really fathom us affording to not have Balta playing back. I simply don't think we have a choice. Last 5 games opposition talls.

Larkey - 6goals - equal most for season
King - 6goals - most for season, equal most career
Ugle-hagen - equal 5 goals - most for season, equal most for career
Petty - 6goals - most ever
Van Rooyen - 4goals - most ever
Lewis - 4 goals - 2nd most for season

Balta was a big part of this but there's simply no support. Backline no longer plays to help each other. Big, big issues.

I’ve always supported the Balta Full Back option and still reckon he could become a champ there

But T Jnr was in my ear at the game yesterday - and now you’re swaying me with the Balta forward argument

Now I’m definitely in the “dunno” camp

There were plenty of dark days when Rance, Astbury, Grimes, Vlastuin and the like started together… could be time to develop Gibcus/Young/Bauer/Brown back there.

It's a good thing he doesn't try to chew gum while attempting the advanced calculus of 'get ball, kick goal'. The poor dummy finds it hard enough putting the right foot in front of the left, anything more complex and his tiny brain might explode from the sheer strain. It's a miracle the pea in his head is able to communicate with the dinosaur brain in his hip to allow him to coordinate his actions to kick the ball at all, or that they even allow him out of the sheltered workshop to play in the first place. Please, nobody ask the stupid dumb moron the *smile* score or the universe might collapse on itself. For *smile*'s sake. Let's put Stephen Hawking at CHF.
Your post is ridiculous. Stand in the corner and face away you big baby.

So a new coach for 2024
Then perhaps a forward set up of Lynchman and Noah as the key forwards with Bauer bird the third tall supported by a rotating grouping of Dusty, Shai, Cummerbund, Moju, Clarkey, Nigel, David as the smaller forward / mids.

Back half of Tylar n Gibber as the keys with Funky, Grub as tall support and Flossy, Broad, Sausage, Shorty, Bakes, Banksy as the smaller creating defenders.

There'll be a power of work required over summer n things would get fairly flakey at times during the year but there's potential n possibilities.

We know it’s going to be a bad year, and a lot will go wrong, however after Tom, the KPF cupboard is empty, so try Balta there again, he’s got the size and at least some of the tools he needs. Part of the problem may have been that we tried to play 3 of them in the past. It may work better with 2.

What are our biggest issues at present?

There‘s the dump kick forward, a long time favourite of our midfielders. But there is no-one to mark it, so the defence turns it over too easily.

Then there’s the easy out from our forward line. In the heyday, small forwards would chase, harass, snarl, frighten and generally make it a bit harder than it needs to be to successfully move the ball to the other end of the ground. Now they mainly just ”stand” and watch.

Our midfield doesn’t chase much. Or is it that our forwards allow their running opponents to run through the middle unopposed? Is it actually the forwards who don’t run and chase? Personally, I think it is the latter.

When the defence is under pressure, or the full back is kicking out after a point, we don’t have anyone who can take a big pack mark to relieve this pressure somewhere around the half back to wing area. So the defence never have time. Balta can’t be there to mark it if he is taking the kick out, or manning up some spud forward who is enjoying kicking a career high goal tally.

Balta is our best defender. But he is not the man for the number 1 forward. Tylar Young might be, but he is finding his feet, hence the multiple goals from these average key forwards lately. Gibcus might become our number 1 defender in time. They need to play at least 30 games together before they gel properly. So far they have played 0 games together.

Lynch and Balta forward does sound compelling. It would help with each of the problems listed above. Vlastuin and Grimes can spend next season supporting Gibcus and Young Whilst Lynch and Balta spearhead the attack.

BTW, how is it that a team that boasts the talents of Lynch, Martin and Bolton has a “forward line problem?”

Yes of course, change of the guard, have to play youngsters and they're the most obvious on our list. Need to balance it with experience. Balta.

Bauer third tall down back. Played his best footy there in the reserves.
Bauer had a great audition for the backline in the VFL today kicked 4 goals 2 behinds had 10 kicks 7 marks 3 tackles playing as a forward
To the backline with Bauer  is the way forward in 2024

Geez calm down… he was great up fwd today but in my opinion overall this year he has played his best footy in defence. My opinion only of course.

It’s a tough one RE where we play Balta.. it messed with his form and confidence moving all over the ground last year. To me he looks the most likely of all our key backs to succeed up forward, but he’s also taken the most intercept marks in the comp this year. Yes, the defensive side needs work as he’s often getting lost on his opponent or giving much too much leg rope, but geez he can really take some big intercept marks. It’s a head scratcher for sure

He could play either end obviously but better serves us in Defense I believe.
His D50 rebounds and ability to kick over a zone is a huge weapon on top of the intercept marking.
I'd love to see what him and Gibcus would look like in the same backline in a few seasons.

Not sure how good his tank is but I'd like us to try him as the Richo high half forward leading to the wings as the outlet and then running out the back marking with the flight. Dunno, but it felt right yesterday when we kicked long down the wings to Balta. He's an athletic beast in the mould of Richo, Kouta and Curnow that needs to be unleashed. Similar to Richo, his brain fades won't hurt us as much playing in the forward line also.

You can see his frustrations trying to play a conservative, tight checking, disciplined game in defence. He's too prone for a brain fade or 2 and loose checking.
