Noah Balta - Welcome to Tigerland

Rance was one of the greatest key backmen ever to play the game.
Yeh we better bring it down a notch or two on Noah just now. Rance is the best defender I've seen play. Let's let Noah be Noah not Rance #2

Just love the way he marks with one grab. He has also developed the knowledge to know when to mark and when to spoil.

I'm stunned he is this good at this age.

The comparisons to Rance are always going to be there because they play in a similar position. They are very different players. Rance was one of the best defenders ever, was a star for a number of years. Balta is showing how good he is but there's a way to go before he reaches Rance level. Mind you, the fact that this is even seen as possible makes for a very tasty prospect.

Reckon balta is more jakovich than rance

rance was the greatest defender I have ever seen and if balta has half of his career we should be happy

the way balta uses his body he is almost unmoveable and he is still a pup in footy terms

he reminds me of jakovich in the way his body looks and the way he can mark the ball 1 on 1 .

so much talent so much upside

he may well be the best young kp player in the country already after 20 odd games

Yeah lets be honest here - Rancey was one of the best defenders ever. Period.

They are similar in the way they turn defence into offence and sprint off out of defence after taking an intercept mark. Very similar. The same types of mistakes stem from doing this as well, but like with Rancey - the good well and truly outweighs the bad.

I am stoked with how much he has improved since last year, and am over the moon we appear to have found our next elite KPD of the next 10 years. What a joy it will be to watch him continue to develop and dominate.

Rance was one of the best defenders ever. Whilst the thought is somewhat blasphemous, Noah has the potential to be even better. He probably wont be, but it appears that he has all the attributes required. At the same age, he's probably ahead.

yes, versus Sydney on a wet day (surprise) at VFL Park to cost us the win, and in the end a finals spot. 1996 maybe?
Spot on early 1996; round 3 maybe. I was there and I was spewing at that free against Richo. As it turned out it cost a spot in the finals.

Opposition supporter rang up having a go saying that Balta’s goal shouldn’t have been allowed as Lynch interfered on the goal line.

Did say it was one of the best goals he has seen this year.

Watson on SEN after the call saying your basically can do whatever you want on the goal line’.
I heard that. It was a Scu

Just thinking out loud - should we see how he goes as a key forward before we lock him away as a key defender?

with his size, speed, leap, massive shoe, he could be some key forward.

especially the way he's been one grabbing his marks - wowee.

No, Harry.
Our backline is missing too many talls. Can't afford to take him out of there this season. We need DTLD and Grubb back.
Maybe if the coaches think it's a good idea they could try him forward next preseason.
Personally I think he's found his niche.

I can't think of any other player around the 6'4 mark as good on their opposite foot as our man Balta.

Such crap. Tom has every right to launch at the mark, which he does. But even with a leap he cannot reach it, so drops his hands.
Absolutely no free and no change to the result anyway. Weagle flogs.

Balta is not even half way through his apprentice - they say you don’t blossom as a player till you get 50 games under your belt - well I can’t wait to see what Balta can do after he reaches 50 games.

That defensive punch he did was awesome - went like a bullet.

I reckon Balta will do well against Hawkins as he bathed Darling for most of the night - and Darling is a dam good player.

True, Darling only kick 1 goal on Noah and that was for that hold in the goal square, the other 2 Darling kicked were on Vlaustin, Noah's game was even better on second viewing as was Aarts, Rioli and Georgie, (our small forwards in unison for 1st time this year).

I think he could play anywhere , however his always looked a backman to me, the other thing is we need him down back atm , we’re fine for talks forward .

id be building our back half around him for the next decade , looks like he may have that rare Rance, Grimes ability to play on any type of forward, in time I can see him taking on the main role down back the other 2 have , where they just take up the crucial position and let there opponent come to them

I was really hoping that the same opportunity may have been given to RCD or Dow to find another player. Balta has really taken and run with it.

Noah has shown increased comfort at the level over the past 18months though, remember he tore the Deez a new one in a praccie game they couldnt get near him.
