Nick Vlastuin

I can remember in the wallace era , we had an overload of skinny players that didnt like the tough stuff , and I used to cringe at how feeble we looked against the more physical sides ,

Its easy to take Nick for granted these days , but then if you think back and compare to what we were , you appreciate him and some of his team mates a lot more

May not get huge numbers ,but geez he impacts a lot of contests, no doubt there's only one G Archer but his not unlike him with his build an attack on the ball in the air, may just be a lock across half back

I think he's definitely a lock at HB CC and there's nothing wrong with that whatsoever.

On the Richmond web site, he says to Richo that he wants to move into the midfield once his tank improves.

Perhaps he is that extra big bodied mid that we are after?

Agree mate, I was one of the un educated saying he should go in the middle, however I think Dimmas got this one right at this point

Had some avg games earlier this year but the last couple of weeks he has really stepped up.

Great to see him get some more of the ball.

Also great to hear him talk about getting more of the ball as being a priority

Vlastuin is probably in our best 3 footballers at the club, his footy "smarts" outshine many of the others who get the publicity and his contributions that don't make it to the brain-dead stats sheets (that too many people have wet dreams over) basically hold our backline together.

Vlastuin reads the play so much better than virtually all of our "athletes" that the difference is night and day to those of us that still can recognise real footballers compared to the running robots that infest AFL lists these days (courtesy of the Interchange system). He is one of the few we currently have that would have been good enough to get a game a generation ago when Richmond played for Premierships and not the scraps of simply making the finals occasionally every decade.

The boys that needed to lift their efforts down back have had a really good month; Vlastuin, Grimes, Batchelor.
Spot on, they have been really good the last month.

His recovery from a marking contest is cat-like. He's always the first one on his feet.

great point. his recovery is first class. love his determination to at least the contest at all costs.

seems like he still struggles with contest stamina. third, fourth efforts which he makes but it seems to tax him.

will only be better after one more pre-season. I'm tippin' bona fide A grader in 2016.

Absolutely Carts.
Hodge is considered a legend by many for the career he's had and not as a midfielder but as a General of the backline.
If Floss gets near Hodge..oh boy.

Hope he steps up to backline general very quickly. This will allow us to replace Chaplin with a more skillfull player who can actually man up an opposition key position player.

Would be bloody brilliant but, that's a massive career to step up too. Was a pretty handy threesome in that draft, Hodge, Judd, Ball, in that order for me. Reckon Hodge has the others covered in two crucial areas, leadership n old fashioned football mongrel.

Yep - if he continues doing what he's doing - but can add to that by getting more attacking disposals - he'll could become an absolute gun.
