Re: A positive - Vlastuin?

A lot of love for the kid, considering half on here were spewing the day we picked him.
Hypocrites

It looks like the recruiters' policy of finding players with one unusually large body part is finally paying dividends, if Bargearse McBean and The People's Melon are anything to go by. Although Nahas brings it down to two out of three. Swings and roundabouts.

:hihi I can see this thread is already taking on mythical proportions. If Floss finishes runner up in the B&F, polls 14 Brownlow votes and wins the Rising Star Award, then maybe we can talk about him in the same breath as Buckley. Until then, I suggest we tone down the superlatives.
Buckley was 20 and had a Magarey Medal before he made his AFL debut.

I guess its not only me, but gee I love it when the ball is in Vlossy's hands.
Very good times ahead.

Hell yeah, but equally good, if not better when he doesn't have the ball...

Lot of mayo this week. The boy Vlas is due for a down day soon and that's fine. Then the reverse mayo will come.

From what I've heard Nacho definitely makes it three out of three, but I aint looking to verify.

This kid is so good an ancient civilization in the se pacific predicted his arrival and built statues of him on their island.

There were quite a few heads on the island, are we to expect a father & son dynasty?

They should employ this style when his statute is commissioned one day, so his bronzed bonce can gaze across Punt Road Oval forever. Right next to Bargearse's bronze bike rack.

Well played but not true. I would've taken Grudy but I didn't say Vlas would be a bust. Was a safe bet. But good effort.

Have heard the same since he debuted in the VFL.

Why would you take Grundy over Vlastuin? Grundy won't be anything special IMO.

And this is based on what exactly?

From the highlights I've seen of him and in the VFL he just looks like your stock standard ruckman, nothing more. I wouldn't take a ruckman at pick 9 when you can get a potential 200 + game midfielder who can take the game by the scruff of the neck which I think Vlastuin can when he gets older.

I'd rather have a gun midfielder then your average ruckman who you can poach from another club or the state leagues at the ready made age of 24-25. Look at Billy Longer for example. Brisbane took him at pick 8 when they could have taken Ellis, Greene, Tomlinson or Adams. Not writing Longer off but i'd prefer a gun midfielder over your stock standard ruckman who takes 4-5 to even really hit their straps unless their Natainui like which is a one off.

He's just come back from injury so I would take your observations with a grain of salt. And the argument that midfielders are better value first round picks is debatable. Since 2004, every ruckman recruited in the first round has progressed as expected. Meeson was the last bust almost a decade ago, since that time we've had Leuenberger, McEvoy, Kreuzer, Naitanui, Ryder, Vickery and Clark.

Statistically, the ruck is one of the safest choices, and far from writing off guys like Longer and Grundy, I'd be wagering that they stand a very good chance of succeeding.

Not that I want to dredge out the past, but very few posters including myself wrote Vlas off as a definite bust. Quite the opposite in fact, I think I commented at the time that he was a certain 150 gamer with a ceiling as high as Lenny Hayes.

Would I have taken Grundy ahead of him? Sure would have, and my concerns over our fragile ruck stocks remain as prevalent today as they were at draft time. Addressing the ruck should be our top priority come year's end.

Experts can't agree on the significance of the number of heads. Some say we can expect 887 Flossy's to play for the RFC by the time the end of the world comes around. Others are more practical and believing the numbers of statues all over the island are a cryptic message that Flossy seems to be everywhere. Where ever you look, there will be a flossy.
