Could he win the B&F this year?

He might be sitting on 5 Brownlow votes ATM. 2 v Melbourne and 3 tonight?

And O'Meara's hold on the Rising Star is not as tight as it was 24 hours ago.

Kid can play. Might peter out as the season goes on but history looks bright.

O'Meara has the runs on the board though, he's only played one below average game and the rest have been very solid with one brilliant game.
Vlas has already played 2 brilliant games.

Re: A positive - Vlastuin?

Love his toughness, tackling and clean disposal.
What has really impressed me about with Nick is his willingness to run hard to link up. Has been showing up most senior players over the past few weeks with his run and carry, while too many have stopped once they dispose of it.

His tank, or ability to develop one, was the main concern when he was drafted.
He may tire as the season continues, but it has been a great start from the kid.

Re: A positive - Vlastuin?

An absolute star in the making.

I heard one of the commentators say that he has dropped 6kg since he first arrived at the club. He realised quickly the work required to be an AFL footballer and didnt waste a minute in preparing himself.

Re: A positive - Vlastuin?

The way JAckson has used our first pick when compared to Miller, and before him Beck has been stark. From what I've noticed watching the juniors if you don;t have one of the first 3 or 4 picks it is very important to go the 'solid citizen' type. When you have a really early pick, by all means go Cotch, Gibbs, Nattanui - but if you are in the 7-15 range much better to make the safe bet that might not be a sueperstar but will almost certainly give you 10 years good service.

These players are usually not that hard to spot at the championships. Theyre often the captain, or play centre and end up getting 25 odd possessions, but without being super eye catching. I remember really distinctly the 2005 draft. After the first 4 or 5 picks you could tell the really highlight reel types had all gone. We had pick 8 and the saf ebets were obvious in Nathan Jones and Hurn. Instead Miller tried to be clever and the rest is history.

Jackson has done the opposite with the 7-15 range picks. He's gone with solid ballwinners and sold leader types. Vlas, Conca and Ellis should all serve us well for years. THe lesson from the Geelong dynasty has been that you need a good half dozen of these types in any premiership team. If one of the turns out to be a Voss/ Riccuito thats a bonus. Don't wanna jinx it but that is how good Rasputin is looking like shaping up as at this very ealry stage.

Re: A positive - Vlastuin?

I really like his little understated goal celebrations shows he is not a big head (although literally he has a huge head - bigger than Cam Mooney as seen in the interview after the game).

Re: A positive - Vlastuin?

Nice to get a kid this hard, this good, this early. I'm joining the push for no 17 next season. Jack would be happy to see him running around with his old number on the back.

Re: A positive - Vlastuin?

another fantastic pick up for a player at #8 in the draft... Lets hope in years to come they talk about how did he slip to 8th!!! :)

The good thing is that big head contains a big football brain.

O'Meara also has the advantage of already having one full season training with the Suns. He should be ineligible ;D

The best first 6 games I've seen a Richmond player play in a long long time. What a pick up

Better than Dusty's first 6? Would have to be close.

Thank god he got that ankle injury at the champs and was forced to play half back. Could have gone before 9 otherwise!

Re: A positive - Vlastuin?

vlas really puts wells theory on recruiting has more important than most think, the ability to improve based on past improvements, fox footy last night said vlas was 6kgs overweight, then worked his butt off to loose this and thus improve his tank. on the other hand oakley nichols had a learning disorder and little history of improvement, we all know how that ended
