Re: The "Trade Vlastuin?" thread - Was Game Plan 2017 Rewind Adelaide thread
Nick Vlastuin is a (very) neat skills static half back learning to play up the ground. At least he was learning to play up the ground. We moved him back again and he lit up for a quarter. And then got injured. But he is an established 15 touch player with immaculate skills. And a good specimen. Passable athlete. Strength good. Running sporadic but usually ordinary. Ball winning below average for position (HBF) but forces space and uses quickly and infallibly.
In terms of role he is a non runner in a running side with low BWA. The spotlight must fall on him. But the coach loves him.
Looks very glamourous.
And is widely viewed as having upside.
As a 23yo he is absolutely worth pick #20 in any draft and could probably draw #15 in value.

It has to be win-win. It's hard to fleece anyone now. Give value to get value.
I reckon Gold Coast are another option to talk with. Multiple picks as well.
The first place we go, SCOOP. We do good business.
GCS have plenty of draft choices but have to become viable week to week. They need experience and a future. They will overpay a flanker or a mid. Their pick #6 will probably be available for a player and pick. Vlastuin may be that player. We need the pick.
GCS have three 2017 second rounders. One of them then.
Carlton need a player. They can't keep feeding their members rebuild *smile*. (Although I like it when they do.) Vlastuin and #15 won't get us #2/3. But we probably have a player that will. We should be looking at #2/3. Let's put eg Jarrod Brander and Patrick Naish into our 2018 side and see what happens.
We should help our less-able enemies to defeat our able enemies. But not to defeat us. It's a fine line. That, BTW, is why clubs like GWS probably won't trade with us. They will be looking to trade with Carlton and GCS too. Vlastuin is probably going to be perceived to be better than what GWS might put on the table.
We can build for the now through the National Draft. Vlastuin can be a part of that. Trading up in the 2017 ND, and out of it strategically, are crucial in the Naish Plan. (No first rounder paid for Naish. Imperative.)
