Not a snowflakes chance of Vlas going ...

Hahah. Naw, it's linked. And your point is valid. The game plan has changed since Round six and players we once thought were valuable, maybe now aren't.

Any game plan is unproven until finals success ultimately. Harder, tougher, more contested games ... where I'd back a Vlastuin to stand up, whereas some of our baby SFs may not get a touch. Good tall players come into their own in September too.

It's easy for a player to diminish in value when they miss many games. I rate him as top 18. A player who can stand up when the heat's really on and lift his intensity. A team leader in waiting. Will always put his head over the ball.

Naish looks a very lighly built outside player; could take 3/4 years to make it .. or not at all. Not definitely better than Floss.

Congrats antman ....a great thread (only at page 1 so far) but its good. I notice ...if you start off a thread sensible, thoughtful and educated ...it (and im at the bottom of page 1 remember) it seems to hold its tone and civility.

Noted brother.

McIntosh can play taller down back too.

Don't think I've seen him use his height to any advantage. He can't play key position and vlastuin can play on a 3rd tall so I don't see any difference despite the apparent height advantage.

Re: The "Trade Vlastuin?" thread - Was Game Plan 2017 Rewind Adelaide thread

I think in the right circumstances everyone is trade-able. But what has been called a very shallow draft, looking for 3rd round picks for him is a bit light.
And I think keeping him as a back up defender/ mid (injuries happen) would offer more than the gamble of trading for 3rd round picks.

But anything that gets us closer to a flag gets my vote.

Nick Vlastuin is a (very) neat skills static half back learning to play up the ground. At least he was learning to play up the ground. We moved him back again and he lit up for a quarter. And then got injured. But he is an established 15 touch player with immaculate skills. And a good specimen. Passable athlete. Strength good. Running sporadic but usually ordinary. Ball winning below average for position (HBF) but forces space and uses quickly and infallibly.

In terms of role he is a non runner in a running side with low BWA. The spotlight must fall on him. But the coach loves him.

Looks very glamourous. ;) And is widely viewed as having upside.

As a 23yo he is absolutely worth pick #20 in any draft and could probably draw #15 in value.

It has to be win-win. It's hard to fleece anyone now. Give value to get value.

I reckon Gold Coast are another option to talk with. Multiple picks as well.

The first place we go, SCOOP. We do good business.

GCS have plenty of draft choices but have to become viable week to week. They need experience and a future. They will overpay a flanker or a mid. Their pick #6 will probably be available for a player and pick. Vlastuin may be that player. We need the pick.

GCS have three 2017 second rounders. One of them then.

Carlton need a player. They can't keep feeding their members rebuild *smile*. (Although I like it when they do.) Vlastuin and #15 won't get us #2/3. But we probably have a player that will. We should be looking at #2/3. Let's put eg Jarrod Brander and Patrick Naish into our 2018 side and see what happens.

We should help our less-able enemies to defeat our able enemies. But not to defeat us. It's a fine line. That, BTW, is why clubs like GWS probably won't trade with us. They will be looking to trade with Carlton and GCS too. Vlastuin is probably going to be perceived to be better than what GWS might put on the table.

We can build for the now through the National Draft. Vlastuin can be a part of that. Trading up in the 2017 ND, and out of it strategically, are crucial in the Naish Plan. (No first rounder paid for Naish. Imperative.)

You've almost got me convinced lads.

Re: The "Trade Vlastuin?" thread - Was Game Plan 2017 Rewind Adelaide thread

With Batchelor and Broad every chance to be moved on and Houli 30 next year, Vlastuin with his ability to play tall and small is too versatile to be traded. He is one of our best kicks, very good overhead, and is just a very clever player.

Shed is a player who might have a bit of currency, we might be able to shop him around. Port and the Crows might look at him, and with the go home factor he might be interested in a trade.

Re: The "Trade Vlastuin?" thread - Was Game Plan 2017 Rewind Adelaide thread

If Floss is shopped. Then it doesn't have to be for a draft pick. It could be to land a seasoned player from another club who fills a gap/greater need.
As we are in the window this would seem a better course of action.

That's kinda technical, Oldsmobile. A player is shopped for currency. That currency is shopped. GCS offer #23. Hawthorn take #23 for Breust*.

* Kidding.

Re: The "Trade Vlastuin?" thread - Was Game Plan 2017 Rewind Adelaide thread

I'd swap Vlaustin out for Lloyd without too much concern.

Given Lloyd isn't expected to be kicking heaps of goals as a forward, he has to be judged on his current role. I think Vlaustin is better at it than Lloyd.

I'd be asking then - could we live without Vlaustin and make do with Lloyd. Is keeping Vlaustin going to make us improve and win finals\a premiership. If the answer is yes to the first and no to the second, I'd consider trading Vlaustin.

Re: The "Trade Vlastuin?" thread - Was Game Plan 2017 Rewind Adelaide thread

The only reason to trade Flossy would be another draft pick to have a good crack at Josh Kelly

Be interesting to see if he's named in the VFL this week. If not I fear he's re-injured himself & come back too soon.

He's named. http://vfl.com.au/peter-jackson-vfl-seniors-round-12/

I thought he was ok today.

Good to have home back.

I appreciated his hardness at the contest. Viking like.

Also he will be a lot better for the run as he improves his match hardness.
