new equalization plan.

why not play each other once, then start the second round, and next year just complete the balance of sides you didn,t play twice, then start again, 22 rounds or whatever would be fairer, than current system :hearton :clap :p

Not in any single year it wouldn't be. If you get drawn to play Eagles, Swans and Crows away one year, and home the next the draw in any one year would be weak or strong.

Sure. 14th of 17 for revenue. 12th of 17 for supporters http://www.roymorganonlinestore.com/News/1424---Swans,-Magpies-and-Lions-have-most-supporte.aspx. Even if we were included we'd be the poorest team in it and destined to finish down the bottom.

Just bemused at the outpouring of grief at an equalisation plan which will actually helps us.

LMAO!! What a load of contrived crap, having spent nearly my whole life in both Melbourne and Sydney , all I can say is that if the Swans have that many supporters then King Kong is my nephew. They wouldn't even have a third of that -at best. Same goes for those Brisbane "figures" Geez give us some credit mate. What a joke. ::)

This time I have to applaud Demetriou and the AFL on this initiative to save the competition from itself.

I will watch in anticipation to see if it is made real or merely rhetoric.

Bums on seats count for nothing when there are $1b TV deals funding the game and the sponsorship that flows from it. People paying at the gate simply don't count in the grand scheme of things.

If that's the way the AFL feels, the game is doomed. Its success was built as a live spectator sport - unlike racing, which is primarily a punting sport and has sold out to Sky Channel. Sure, tracks are full at the spring carnival, but they're ghost towns for most of the year.

The AFL sees the divide between rich and poor growing, and weaker clubs struggling and losing supporters and needing to be propped up a la Port in order to fulfil the TV rights contract. No doubt the players will scrutinise Monday's announcement and the figures involved, and wonder what Demetriou really means by "There is no more money".

Joe, I don't see why you're up in arms about those figures.
Of course if you live in Sydney and someone doing a survey walks up and asks you who you support in the AFL you're gonna say Sydney Swans.
What they probably didn't mention was most of them would've said "I don't follow the AFL" or ariel ping pong or something and were probably pushed into an answer.
They could probably do a similar survey here and say Melbourne Storm has 1,000,000+ supporters.

And they still artificially inflate the crowds at the Swans and Lions games by giving away tickets to get schoolkids and other community groups there. Sydney and Brisbane supporters simply aren't interested unless their sides are winning. They won't go week in week out unless the team is regularly making finals, and yet the AFL is bending over backwards to give concessions to two other teams from those same areas who are going to struggle to draw respectable crowds for years.

But they persist with creating two new future black holes,in gws,and gc ,but throwing truck loads of cash, and raping of players from established clubs to do it.

In ten years, when the new sides have sucked the afl dry,and the money runs out, from fans who have had a gutful, and fans of GWS,and GC,who have lost interest in there novel,(NEW SIDES),and gone back to there beloved rugby,.

They will then be crawling back to us VIC supporters/members,to pull them back out of the SH1t,by putting bums on seats,.

this.

you don't need to provide stats to me to prove we are not a big club anymore. having to play home games interstate (along with other small clubs such as melbourne, footscray and north melbourne) proves this beyond any doubt.

Victorian members forget that the net membership revenue to the club is close to zero. They are effectively season ticket holders and the fact the AFL lets them appoint their directors is part of the plan to have some clubs self distruct.

The AFL effectively owns their club because they own all the branding. All the interstate clubs are owned eithe by the AFL or the respective state governements via their football commissions. These clubs have none or a minority of directors appointed by Members. This game and clubs are controlled by the AFL and members of Victorian clubs better learn that quick because some will lose their clubs, nothing surer.

interesting conspiracy theory view there

The old saying is good things come to those who help themselves . The money from the AFL will not pay our debt off but we have done many things to help ourselves already
1. TFTF addresses debt and it also addresses many of things that the AFL wants clubs to do with the money that is given i.e more football spending and better facilities .
2. We have set ourselves up for a very good operating result in 2011 and beyond which will also reduce debt . We have increased membership ,increased sponsorship including a sponsor for the ME bank centre and sold games with the sole aim of helping improve the football club .
3. We will sell further games in the near future to add to the club coffers .

There is no reason why with TFTF , the much better operating results of the club and with the AFL distribution money we can't be debt free in the near future .It may not happen this year but it will in the next 1-2 for sure . What the AFL doesn't like is clubs who wait for the AFL to bail them out and RFC is not doing that .

Within a year or two over a period of about 5 years this club will have redeveloped the whole Punt Road precinct with a new football centre and facilities and redeveloped oval , developed a summer training complex in Craigeburn , paid off its debt of $5 million and significantly increased its football spending .
Once it’s done that’s a major achievement list imo .

Good post.

Now what time is this press conference? Show me the money,AD!!

We get 8 million between 2012-2016.

Plus a bunch of other stuff which takes too long to type

There is a further $37m for the AFL to distribute in 2015-16 depending on how clubs are going with revenue in 2012-14.

Yeah.

3.25mil (All clubs get) over 5 years 2012-2016 and the remaining 4.75mil we get (from the DISEQUAL FUND) over 3 years 2012-2014.

Good result for us.

Looks like the inequity caused by the stadium deals is finally being addressed.

It is no co-incidence that the six teams with the most compromised deals are getting the lion's share of the Disequal fund.

Still, this doesn't put any of them ahead of the game, it just compensates them for missing out on a larger slice of the gate revenue. It is better than nothing.

Use the money wisely now Tigers. This should allow us to step up the percentage of salary cap that we pay over the next three years and spend some more money on development and recruiting. Hopefully, the six sold interstate home games and the Fighting Tiger Fund will clear the debt and free up a bit more cash.

This is very good news. If we can compete off-field with the big clubs along with the talented group of kids we have brought in. 8 mill plus the 3mill the fans have raised and hopefully another 3 mill, plus our 2 sold home games and the fact the profit we usually post each year usually pays debt interest and can now contribute to other areas, will wipe our debt fix Punt Road Oval, provide more coaches, recruiters etc.
