New clash jumper - reversed strip

Baloo said:
The AFL want a clash strip. We are beholden to the competition.

Perhaps this is part of why a lot are steadily losing faith with the AFL in favour of more earthy Australian Football competitions.
Won't happen but would be bloody refreshing if the AFL did away with clash strips altogether.

Maybe a quick poll but do those who have played soccer a fair bit, or follow the sport a lot, have any major issues with an AFL clash strip ? I guess that's where my attitude to the idea comes from. I've been part of teams that have won cups in clash strips. Doesn't much matter when the Champagne is flowing.

The thing I find odd about the reverse jumper now is that it's become also a bit synonymous as our reserves strip.

Not sure how the senior players will feel about basically wearing our VFL jumper four times a year.
You watch that balloon to eight times.

I'm agin' it.

You have a short memory.

Oh I remember it well I was there. This is still your most bizarre post ever.
The practice of swapping jumpers on GF day went the way of the dodo for good reason.
Everybody wants to bathe in premiership glory in the purest possible way. Not in diluted Year 7 photoshop projects.
Did not the club poll us very supporters not so long ago? I thought the jumper was a sacred thing.
WAS a sacred thing. Wearing this photoshopped crap vs Port on some rainy June Sunday would be one thing.
But in a GF?! Yeah Baloo DURING THE GAME not after it.... just no.

Priority 1: Win a GF
Priority 2 : Make the GF
Priority 3: Winning finals
Priority 4: Wearing "our" jumper during 1, 2 or 3
Priority 5 and onwards: whatever!

On the money spook. Once you do it they subtly keep upping the amount of times the team winds up wearing the alternative strip.

If that's true then I am a posting genius.

Anyway, while I can understand the resistance, it's just part of the changing landscape of AFL. Some changes are for the good like getting to watch every match live, others will have some people will reacting negatively. In the grand scheme of things it does't strike me as a massive issue. As long as our clash strip is a good clash strip, and I think the reverse strip is that, then I have no issues.

Now if we had come up with some ugly white and essendonesque clash strip I reckon we'd all be angry.

Probably really only a matter of time before every club (except maybe Collingwood) has to wear 3 or 4 different strips. Doesn't mean we have to like it, though.

Imagine wearing this *smile*ing thing in a Grand Final!!! The side would have to quickly change before taking the podium. Utter sh!te.

spain did it in the 2010 world cup final. i don't see it as a big deal.

my positioned has softened a lot... probably for this reason. at the end of the day, richmond winning a premiership in a clash jumper is not gonna soften my celebrations.

yeah you now see teams wearing clash jumpers when they're not required to. eg freo in the 2013 GF (the AFL did allow them to wear their home jumper). now that annoyes me. melbourne victory always wear their away strip when playing away due to sponsorship arrangments. that annoys me.

i can already name a few teams that have 3 (west coast, brisbane, hawthorn, port adelaide, footscray off the top of my head).

Yep because at the end of the day this is more about merchandi$ing than anything else. Change the jumper as often as possible and you raise revenue.

Heck people used to love watching the game on black and white TVs.
It's not for the benefit of the viewers given the overwhelming majority are against reverse strips.

Has this clash jumper actually been confirmed? All the BLK emails I get have the current one listed as the 2015 clash jumper.

It is weird Tooheys, but someone must like it and someone must be making money out of it otherwise they wouldn't push it so hard.

My thoughts are that we really don't have a clash with anyone. Maybe the Eagles at a stretch.

Can't see how we clash with Port either. Black with a teal and white V and black shorts v Black with a yellow sash and white shorts? Can't see the issue. Maybe we could roll out yellow shorts v Port.

Other than that, I dont see an issue.

But, if the AFL are insisting we have one, then I can see the merit in keeping the same design and same colours in reverse.

I'd much rather see that than having some design with a Tigers head, or claw marks, or swirly lines as we have explored in pre-season style jumpers.

Agree, we dont clash with anyone so whats the bloody point.

How good will it be to beat Weak Coast at Subi in the WA State jumper......can't wait! It will send their freals even more ape than usual

I don't care what Richmond jumper we wear when we win the Grand final.

Agree. Especially as our clash strip is very good.
