New clash jumper - reversed strip

YinnarTiger said:
Port don't have a traditional strip except for the one they used in the final against us. Eddie had granted them permission to wear it.
The problem, as I see it, is that the AFL permitted clubs to design and use strips that may clash with traditional strips worn for decades by other clubs. Channel seven also throw their weight around and pressure the AFL into forcing clubs to wear away strips as it looks better on their TV broadcast.

IMHO, the solution is for the AFL to ensure all clubs, including Collingwood, have strips that don't clash, and that games where strip clash may occur are identified at the start of the season. The AFL should also insist that channel seven broadcast in high definition as part of the TV broadcast deal.

My short answer to this jumper is H8.

Let me reiterate - H8.

I hope it sells. We all know it was tested.

For the past ten years and for the next ten, fashion, in the privileged Western World, has been and will be based on authenticity.

Richmond had a yellow shorts period. Laughable then. Ironically so now. Almost cool. It was historically bad. But nonetheless historic. Dignified only by time.

If a punter liked a notion like True to the Past, would she or he enjoy the new fashion jumper? Only as future kitsch.

The team may look to reinforce old-fashioned values on the park. Good.

WTF are the marketing team up to with a yellow jumper?

H8. WTF is this *smile*? Richmond wears a yellow jumper? That's a whole lot less historic and more degrading than yellow shorts.

Authenticity. Old-fashioned values, such as no drug cheating. No lying about that from the AFL.

Such as wearing old-fashioned kit.

Oh, Gillon. Is it possible that you're as deluded as your predecessor? Brendon. Can you see what's coming? The AFL lacks leadership. Do you really want to follow them? Get old-fashioned on kit. And drugs, *smile*. 'It's a hard rain's gonna fall.'

Richmond does not wear a yellow jumper. It's black. With a yellow sash.

Who is calling the shots here?

Really - this should be a marketers dream! They know what the rules of a clash jumper should be, so taking that into account it should be one that makes you want to reach for your wallet straight away and to make even more money - should be changed every 3 years. Just thinking of the club :)

Imagine wearing this *smile* thing in a Grand Final!!! The side would have to quickly change before taking the podium. Utter *smile*.

Agreed, TTT.

The thing I find odd about the reverse jumper now is that it's become also a bit synonymous as our reserves strip.

Not sure how the senior players will feel about basically wearing our VFL jumper four times a year.

Just fwiw I'm imagining it and just reckon it would be fantastic to be in another Grand Final.

Small price to pay for mine. I'll buy the premiership team photos in whatever they're wearing!

Geez I am glad we didn't play in THAT jumper.

We didnt play in it, but a few players wore it on the podium. It's why I quoted TTT's post.

What we wear in a winning grand final is not an issue. But if we didn't wear our traditional strip in a losing grand final it will be the clash jumpers fault I guess.

That's your opinion. I can see why it would be for others. I would certainly prefer we wear our traditional strip in the GF.

I think Benny Gale is on record saying he'd be happy to wear hessian sacks in a Grand Final but if you're talking only about preference then I agree, it's fair to say we would all prefer to wear our traditional strip in a grand Final

This is at the heart of why plenty are against the reverse strip being introduced. During H&A I could care less but it would take some of the shine off GF day even if we won if we're wearing an occasional outfit.

I guess it's a bit to do with our drought. If we'd won a few in our recent history then winning one in a clash strip wouldn't matter so much. But having waited for over 30 years it's fair to say all our dreams have us in our traditional strip.

A bit like owning a ferrari. The first one needs to be red. After that, any colour will do.

Probably.

What is at odds has been the club's recent rhetoric about 'valuing the jumper'..

What jumper were they referring to? The new yellow one?

I don't come from Richmond, I've never lived in Richmond but the jumper is one consistent thing that I have always identified with when it comes to the Tiges.
It's strong branding that ties a lot of us together. Be careful not to mess with something that's worked well for the best part of 130 years.

I don't see it at odds at all. The AFL want a clash strip. We are beholden to the competition. When I look at all the other clash strips out there, a necessary evil if you want to play in the AFL it seems, I reckon our reverse strip is the best one out there.
