Richmond should have resisted the clash jumper when it first came up.
It's an AFL confection dreamt up by highly paid marketing whiz kids slavishly following the international sports example, particularly the US which is where most of their genius borrowed ideas come from.
It evolved and gained acceptance as a potential merchandising opportunity for cash strapped clubs.
In hindsight, if Richmond had been a strong club at the time, it would have totally resisted the direction to adopt a clash jumper, as Eddie did.
The argument should have been that new clubs that came into being after ours should adopt a clash jumper when playing us, end of story.
We blinked and rolled over, and now here we are in our first GF in 35 years, playing in our "clash" jumper.
Great occasion but that's the only disappointing aspect (prior to the bounce).
And the fact that Peggy rolled over so quickly and easily doesn't sit well with me, and perhaps highlights a cultural difference between AFL and sport in her original country.
