This is the Craig (coach) thread, not the football management thread.
If anyone believes Malthouse is available.................please

Smoking Aces said:Reported on the Footy Show by Damian Barrett that Brisbane are going to offer Neil Craig a position as Director Of Football.
Barrett went onto further say that the RFC are also interested in offering Neil a similar position as well.

He is a very good expert on the game, experienced in what is required and a football fitness guru.
Which box is not required to be ticked at Richmond?
The players need contemporary football mangement skills. I am not saying Dimma, Lade etc can't do it, but this guy adds heaps to our coaching skill level. We need that and the opportunity gifted by the idiots in Adelaide must not be missed.
It is also an assessment of Dimma. If he feels threatened, that is a statement of his insecurity and not a statement of what this playing group needs.

You want to employ a bloke with no success in playing the game at the highest level or any success as a coach at the highest level and believe it would be negligent of the Richmond board to not get him on board?? Maybe he could also bring Spud along as his P.A...........

Craig was a dual premiership player and 300 gamer in an era when S.A football was at the same standard as the old VFL or WAFL before they all rolled over to become the AFL plus bits n pieces.
He also had a fair bit of success working with Charlie Walshe and our olympic cyclists.
The bloke is hardly what anyone would define as a spud.
Just as a matter of interest I heard a bit of MnM talking on SEN friday night before the game and he was discussing the prospects of some of the potential replacements for Craig.
MnM was emphatic that the baseline requirement for any prospective coach was previous SUCCESS.
Didn't matter who what or where but the person had to have achieved the pinnacle of his pursuit. Coaching at lower level or assistant coaching or playing. he's adamant that you need to have the understanding of not only how to be excellent at whatever you do to be up amongst the best, but you must have the knowledge of how / what it takes to break through and step above everyone else to win the competition.

The position to which I suggest he be appointed is Director of Coaching.
Mentoring, advising and providing strategy to the existing coaches, who can assess that and pass to the players as appropriate. Not as another assistant coach.
He is eminently qualified for the role. Not only was his coaching at Adelaide better than anyone's at Richmond for the last 30 years, he is a respected tactician and a fitness expert. His coaching skill outside of football is a further credit to his capability. He is hard on the players. This group of players need to understand what is required at the highest level, both physically and mentally. Those not up to it can be fast tracked to the next phase of their life.
He ticks many boxes. I really want him.
His performance at Adelaide was more than commendable.

Maybe the bleatings of an axed hack or the prophetic vision of a modern day footballing sage.
ARCHYBOY said:I hear where you guys are coming from but i still say a big FAT NO. We have alot of talent in our current coaching group, they just need a little more experience and maybe someone that has made it to the top off the field to fine tune some areas.
People say Craig was a good tactician, what a load of shyt. Dangerfield has sat in the pocket all year and today he plays in the guts and has his best game of the year.
Lets agree to disagree on N.Craig

Quality over anything else otherwise we might as well ask Tony Shaw if he wants the gig.shawry said:I think our current coaching group lacks some experience, mostly young inexperienced coaches. I would have htought a bit more experience in there would help.
