Nathan (Axel) Foley [MERGED]

Good news. Will he be right for round 1 and will he get a preseason in?

Jarryd Roughead took 12 months to recover from his achilles rupture. That would give Foley a rough return date of round 15, 2013.

Still means we need to have add another three mids to the rotation as of round 1.

We are two short at the moment with Axel. So important that we get mids this draft.

Crazy decision to give him 3 years.
Rubbish - Nathan is the consummate professional - Does everything right to get on the track, inspirational to the young guys, and most importantly I would suggest Nathan would be the first one to put his hand up and resign if he thought his body was not up to it.

Yes, if he was getting good money.

Just guessing but I reckon by getting the 3 years he's taking a pittance of what he deserves when on the park because of the injuries.

If he stays on the park we get a bargain, if not a) we would be likely to stick by him for another couple of years anyways given his quality and b) wouldn't be taking much of the salary cap.

all fingers crossed that his lower leg/Achilles tendon injuries are behind him. Thy guy deserves a break and as shown early 2012,, you can only mark so many in the middle... Cotch, Lids, Martin, Tuck even and in the years ahead Conca and maybe Ellis get runs thru the middle too.

Love to see him training with the main group just after xmas!

Happy for Nathan. He was negotiating earlier in the season for a 3 year contract to bring him up to 30ish and a one club career player. :clapping

I reckon he would've been on some good money while not playing for a couple of years. Maybe he's giving something back to the club and is playing for unders

Have him back on the park next year will be huge for us. With further development from Conca and Ellis. Don't know about you guys but looks pretty darn good. Really its pretty logical to think that there will be strong improvement in Cotchin, Martin, Conca and Ellis. Delidio will just continue to be an even more rounded player and better leader. Tuck should keep trucking on and Grigg just continue to consolidate and clean up a few areas of his game. Not many teams around our position can say that there is still huge improvement left in there core midfielders. Essendon has Watson and Stanton who have peaked (very good but not getting any better). Carlton much the same (Judd in a very slow decline and Murphy is a gun but not much improvement left etc).

He actually signed for 3 years. Was just updated on the site.

3 years is ridiculous considering the circumstances.

Won't be suprised though, Cameron has form on this

I'm sure the club has done due diligence on Axel's medical condition.
He's proven what an asset he is and the club is backing him in and if there were any doubts on his ability to get over his injuries I'm sure he would put his hand up as you said Uhuh.
I think it's also important to show the younger members that if you do right by the club, the club will support you in your time of need. (Circumstances allowing)
Fingers crossed that he comes back fitter and stronger, he's a major piece of our midfield puzzle. He's been missed.

Contract might have performance and injury clauses.

For mine I'm wrapt Foley is signed for three. This guy is a key player who wouid walk into any midfield rotation in the league when fit.

Very much underrated by the "lets trade him for kid lotto" mob

Ultimate professional.

Very happy with this. Would make a big difference to our plans over the next few years if he wasn't going to be there.Would take years to replace him with a similar type player. Throw him in the middle fully fit on rotationwith Cotchin, Deledio,Martin, a nightmare scenario for taggers.

I could be wrong but didn't Roughead do his mid last season and returned at the start of his season?
