Most underrated player to wear yellow and black

Here's a question, underrated in what way?

Importance? Nobody's doubting it.

Chaos? Best in the game.

Culture/Richmond man? Must be elite due to popularity.

But he was also a deeply flawed footballer.

I reckon his early retirement was due to a lot of things. Partly social media and people going too far. Partly injuries. But I'd say it's also partly that the writing was on the wall with a changing game demanding more footskills and composure and he knew he'd either end up a second tier player, or a journeyman, neither of which is befitting a 3 time premiership star.
I really noticed the I,pact he had in a game ONLY after he retired. I found myself saying ‘we miss George’. So I have to say he was underrated by me and prob many others.

I'll pencil in Princess Plasma for that thread now.
TV should really be a condidate for this thread. I reckon most forget how good he was tracking before he did his shoulder.
He deservedly wasnt rated after that, but he and Jack were the best young KPF combo going around in about 2011.

Kane Lambert
3rd in 2017 & 2nd in 2018 in our Best & Fairest. Supporters of other clubs barely know who is.

Nick Vlastuin
Never being AA

In fact no as much love for AA honours in our premiership era

2017 Rance Martin
2018 Martin Riewoldt Edwards Rance (Caddy, Cotchin, Grimes & Lambert in squad)
2019 Grimes Houli (Martin & Prestia)
2020 Martin (Grimes & Vlastuin)
2021 /
2022 Bolton (Rioli & Lynch)
2023 / (Martin)

2017 Cotch Grimes & Edwards should have been in the squad
2018 Grimes unlucky not to be in team and Vlas in squad
2019 Prestia should have been in
2020 One of Grimes or Vlas should have been in
2022 Lynch should have been in

Second Cogs & Foley - Foley at his best was like Paul Kelly and dare I say, almost Judd-like at his absolute peak.

Will add 2007-8 Thursty -sure he didn't have many tricks but looked on track to becoming an elite stopper before the injuries.
Tucky (RIP)
Matt Arnott - was no star but certainly wasn't helped by some questionable development IMHO - reckon he would've thrived under the 17-20 gameplan as it was pretty much designed to get the best out of players like him.

BEllis's aerial game.

Yep and walked to the Cats.

Pickering also went to Melbourne and Peter Wilson went back to the Eagles and 3 of the best players the Tigers had were gone.

We had Mitchell, Egan, and Weightman left as quality as Lee and Roach were pretty much cooked and most of the quality from 80-82 had retired or were finishing up..

A bit of a favorite in our house back in the day was Chris Bond, tougher than a cats head, won a BF in 94, I think his hit on Fletcher was up with Turners. Had a great 95 season too. I think everybody loved Bondy.

The #35 has been worn by some tough resilient players at the RFC over the years - Chris Bond, Michael Pickering of most recent Chris Newman and of course Nathan Broad.

The other one who went was Craig Lambert. Great centre square player, very creative

And maxfield of course

Yep good point Sin but those two went in the early to mid 90s.

Losing Northey sand Maxfield was a blow after 95.

We did well to replace Sheep Lambert and Jeff Hogg, with a couple of handy blokes in Matty Richardson , Broderick and Butch Gale though.

I was more talking about our mid to late 80s side which lacked serious quality and couldnt afford to lose players such as Wilson or Pickering or Poole...

That late 80s period nearly saw the club go under and triggered the rebuild from scratch under KB with the generation of Knights Gale, Hogg Cambpell, Tim Powell, Turner, Barry Young,, Naish, Free etc heading int the mid 90's

Without a shadow of a doubt Michael Mitchell.

If he'd played in any of the successful Richmond Premiership sides or eras - surrounded by classier teammates (he ran out with some truly awful sides)- he'd be looked upon/revered as a Tiger Champion/Immortal. Up there with some of the greats of the club. Sadly due to a number of concussions - we only saw him line up in 81 games.

Tony free. Tough as they come. I never saw him beaten in a one on one. Great player killed by Dermott.

Kind of nick daffy trapped in damien peverills head,

In dire need of a razor.

In the 2019 prelim, the most under rated piece of play, and I'm still confused as to how it doesn't get more kudos, is the Riewoldt tap to Martin.

Posted on Twitter by a familiar name. I love this angle, makes it even better
