Monday's AFL announcements

How timely that this announcement is made just 48 hours after we crushed Team AFL in the GF??

When these two expansion clubs were manufactured I really despaired and thought success would never come to our club.
Fast forward and now we have 2 Premierships at Punt Road and have the rest of the competition terrified and demoralised.

As other posters have said above, it doesn't matter how much money the AFL throw at these 2 perpetual welfare recipients (GWS and GC).
To succeed you need a fertile culture with solid support systems. GC are bereft of both of these! They won't succeed and I can see the club folding or being relocated to Tasmania in the next 5-10 years with a re-branding.

The AFL can do whatever they like; they can give us a horrid draw, introduce any new rule they want to disrupt our structures, use the bought and paid for media to slander our club etc, etc...
It doesn't matter, we will find a way around it and claim more Premierships!!

I think, dont know what others do but if GC cant , with these concessions in the next 3 years make inroads (highly unlikely in the Gold Coast) , with the help of the AFL overseeing everything they do, clubs cant keep footing the bill..

Its harsh and i feel bad saying that as i wouldnt want (nearly happened to our club) to fall by the waste side , what will the AFL do then?

Club Presidents should all unite and force the hand of the AFL if that does occur.

They were poorly set up in the first place and the AFL have a lot to answer for there so after what 9 years they have finally realized their errors and trying to rectify them. They are coming from a long way back.

Last year with the Games was downright amateurish...

Is it too late will be my question in 3 years time.

Giving them the Darwin zone makes me laugh. Why don't the AFL just move them to Darwin where people actually follow and play footy. Farce!

They could play GC out of Burnley oval and still get more people watching them.
They have no hope.
The 4 extra picks will end up heading south. Just a waste

I don't get the Suns getting extra picks, how many have they bloody had already & lot of good that did them. It's been development & retaining the players that's been the problem.
Spot on.
Even Rocket Eade was blown away by their setup there. Was crap. Culture, training it lacked professionalism. He spent a lot of time trying to change that.

Yep, not the players, it’s how they are setup, development, leadership, culture...

Bit like having a car that breaks down all the time.
Just give it a new paint job.
Looks better now.

You could give that club all 18 first round picks next year and I guarantee most of them will want out within 2-3 years.

To think there are AFL people on good money making these putrid decisions.

The real heartache is for those poor players Rowell and Anderson who head up there all excited and keen only to be dissapointed and rot away at a plastic town and a plastic club.

Even in a Rugby League State the Seagulls then the Titans have both failed!

What is a premiership there going to bring??? an extra 1000 supporters?

I'm on the Tassie Bandwagon and 5 time Premiership Player Jack Riewoldt to finish his playing days in their first season.

That would be an OK story methinks.

Great decision by the AFL. If there's one thing the Suns have lacked it's early draft picks. They can't fail now.

Seriously though i reckon they should have given them a big increase in the salary cap. And extra players on the list. And if needed more money to spend on coaches and staff.

Dunno about this GC Suns thing.. i don't think it will help them ..

I wonder if giving them the Darwin zone provides an idea of what will happen to this failed club when these changes fail in a few years time. Will they move it to Darwin? Makes sense to me to move it there, but they should be doing it now. The Suns are just going to continue to spend and waste the money that is ploughed into it.

Merge them with Carlton and move the merged entity to Hobart
