Monday's AFL announcements

The more the AFL does to dilute the talent pool of our rivals, the better it is for us.

Yes, this is great news for us. Not only for what you mention but also because GC17 have become our key development ground over the past few years. Looking forward to the pipeline of Prestia and Lynch's coming through

Amazing.

So GWS done well with their leg up and GC stuffed theirs up.
So the answer is giving them a bigger leg up?

How young players from GC do we need to keep saving because of these morans?

So glad we have got our two flags before this garbage has come in. RFC will still succeed in spite of it.
Anything that helps our Gold Coast Academy and hinders the clubs below us.

LOL that Melbourne now misses out on one of the wonder kids and Adelaide's pick from Carlton and Sydney now get pushed back too.

Will Adelaide get looked after too?? Maybe they should cos all their players want out after their *smile* poor management and performance since losing in 2017.

Fair Dinkum.

Oh well at least we'll be able to pinch another gun kid or two from that basket case in the next year or two.

Lukocious and King will leave next year so its a pointless and never ending cycle.

Lol I was thinking the same. We just need to get the Ellis’s and Miles to tell these guys how good the RFC is and plant the seed

Is anyone truly surprised?
The AFL stuffed setting up a 2nd team in qld. Its doomed. But wont admit it. So out go the handouts to rebuild go.

They are restarting the process again.

Gold Coast's addition totally stuffed AFL up here. Unless the Lions are a top 4 team, there is nil interest. Local leagues & grassroot's is thriving up here - but the GC is a total joke.

I am actually all up for "resetting" the GC, but they actually need to do it properly. The teams name, logo, color - everything which gives the club its identity to new, young fans - is absolute rubbish. Getting the GC public to follow a team was always going to be hard - but naming them the Suns with their red/orange/yellow colors - there is nil imagination to it.

Reset & re-brand. Call them the Gold Coast Pirate or even just use the Sharks, something that will JUST target younger fans. As it stands they are the Suns and their logo, shirts and culture is *smile*.

For that to happen, it will require to admit they did it wrong. Meaning, there is no chance of it ever happening

They've never had a problem with drafting players who are good enough, it's keeping them. Giving them more draft picks like this isnt really going to change that too much if they don't fix their off field stuff

They also have the worst song in the AFL and Port and Freo have awful songs, but theirs is putrid.

Makes no difference about how you play but the Suns is the most insipid name.

As some wise heads mentioned it would’ve been better aligining to the Southport Sharks but AFL too smart for that.

Which brings me to what I heard the Big Bash marketing guru talking about setting up the BBL teams and that they couldn’t be named after animals (hence Hurricanes, Renegades, Stars, Thunder, Heat etc) and it’s been the same in the AFL since 95, ie Power, Suns, Giants, Dockers,.

I wonder why?

Intersting point about the team names as I was talking about this on the weekend.
The last teams to win a GF without an animal name is Port (2004) and the Bombers (2000).
Every other one has been an animal in that 20 year period.

PETA is dead against it.

Guess we’ll have to pick up up these unfortunate players some time down the track.

I dont know why the Suns need such a bail out.

They've now got more premiership players than the Gee Whizz does.
