midfield depth

On Morton. I think he'll need to go back to the forward line next season. We added Conca, Grigg and Houli to our midfield but we only have one goal kicker of note.

Morton may get the odd run in the middle next year but his primary job should be to kick goals.

Those three are all inside players however, although Conca looks like he might possibly play an outside role.

Morton has been trained to play and outside mid role, an area we lack quality in.

Midfielders need to go somewhere when they are not on the ball , not all can be on the interchange bench especially since there is one less in 2011. The great thing about Morton is we know that when he is not in the midfield he becomes a great forward option and because he will rotate through there he will not get the top defenders like he used to when permanant forward . If he plays midfield and kicks 20-25 goals as well its a massive win.
If you look at Collingwood this year they got lots of goals from Didak , Thomas and Sidebottom none of whom were permanent forwards . That's what Morton can do for us .

Yeah, maybe. Don't think he will be as aggressive as Chappy but I get your point.

Didak is the type that springs to mind. Same role as Chappy but played a different way.

More silk, less grunt. Put it this way, Mitch Morton will be as good as he wants to be. Has all the tools bar a AFL midfielders engine and that he can get over time. If Mitch is serious about being a mid/forward he may not be at his best and most deadly for another couple of years but building up to that he can be a massive weapon.

Yeah. He's like Didak.

Morton in the midfield is our ACE card.

ANyone suggesting he go back to the forward line needs to re-watch rnd 22 or 18-22 for that matter to see what he can do.

Great delivery inside 50, goal kicker...big body!

28 touches 3 goals v Port off the wing says it alll.

Don't think Grigg or Houli are as good as Morton on the wing and won't replace him.

Conca Martin Morton
Cotchin, Foley

Edwards, Tuck, Jackson, Grigg, Houli backing up....loving life!

And Lids streaming through the middle with the afterburners on...

Our midfield needs a bolster. I made the comment that if Prestia plays we win tonight. Shows we need to add another A Grade midfielder to our mix this off season. We are light on here especially if one is out injured.

Agree. Think our biggest problem is our lack of pure midfielders. Apart from Cotchin who is cooked who else do we have as a genuine midfielder? Martin spends a lot of time up fwd as does Bolton. Edwards not really a pure mid. Lambert another. Jack Graham maybe but he doesnt accumulate possessions. We need a Cunnington type.

Being a shocking clearance team is killing us. Wish Tucky was still around

Do a Geelong and get into his ear then.
If its good enough for Geelong, its good enough for us.
Can't rely on Cotchin and Prestia.
We need to package up some of our picks and use them to get Green or Tarranto.
And if that means we lose a few to fit either in, so be it.
