midfield depth

As an aside we have had some bad luck when you look at Brown and Cogs . Coughlan would be our Captain and a 200 Game player by now if it wasn't for those injuries .

As an side to your aside, both (Cogs and Foley) can be put down to indept decisions made by Coaching staff.

You may recall Cogs being put back on the ground with an ACL? Just simply boggles the mind how this wasnt picked up upon inspection.
You may also recall various posts, rumours, articles, hyperbole surrounding Wallets use of Foley when injuried to prolong the inevitable.

We have had so many self obsessed so called "leaders" come through this place that have set us back 10 years.

Makes a grown man cry!

yes , against Hawthorn in launceston for Cogs I think . As i remember it he did it the second time slipping in the shower during pre season . That was after very poor handling of the OP he had as well I think .
Bad memories for sure .

With Foley i agree Scoop, we need to hope the best but plan for the worst.

That could be said for every player in the league.

Coughlan and Brown's injuries are nothing like Foleys and I see no need to set expectations for Foley based on their failures to return to full flight. I am setting my expectations to what I know Foley is capable of.

I remain hopeful and salivating at the thought of Cotchin , Foley and Martin in the centre , Deledio as a running half back and a developing mid tier .

...add to that our new developing mid Mitch Morton.... this kid's got talent to burn, has got sticky fingers and knows where the big sticks are... he'll be a revelation next year.... get excited. ;D

Praying he becomes our Didak.

..... and Edwards . This guy is close to a break out year , he was very good for most of 2010 and will just get better imo .

That's what i mean by a developing 2nd tier , Morton , Edwards , Grigg , Houli and hopefully Conca . Its exciting ! How long is it since we had a midfield that could truly compete ?

Deledio won 2 B&F's and an AA nomination (as a 21 year old) as a midfielder.

Not only that, but IMO quite a few people are rightly changing their view that 'midfield' as a role now pretty much includes the half forwards and half backs. I would say Deledio is a HBF Outside Mid.

.

Wouldnt be surprised if Foley doesnt do much at all next year with him still not right is a very real concern..

Ankles and achilles is a bad place to get chronic injury as it rarely comes good.

Big things expected of MM on the wing, really think as the team improves so will Mitch, not in an insulting way but think he has great qualities of a classic classy front runner

Kind of disagree. Mitch had a couple of good games late in the season when the Tigers were getting thumped. One of the few to put his hand up when under the pump, hardly a front runner from that point of view.

I would be happy if MM played consistent enough footy not to get dropped. That would be a very good start.

I probally didnt use the correct wording ;D , I try a different way , I think MM will be the icing on the cake , when the core of our midfield is very very strong, simply good player, who could be a real weapon in a gun midfield

And from all reports he is training the house down... I just can't wait for a few years down the track, as I believe we will have the best midfield in the comp by far...

He could be our Paul Chapman if he keeps that form up.

Yeah, maybe. Don't think he will be as aggressive as Chappy but I get your point.

Didak is the type that springs to mind. Same role as Chappy but played a different way.

More silk, less grunt. Put it this way, Mitch Morton will be as good as he wants to be. Has all the tools bar a AFL midfielders engine and that he can get over time. If Mitch is serious about being a mid/forward he may not be at his best and most deadly for another couple of years but building up to that he can be a massive weapon.

Yeah that's it. Put the silk he's already showed he's got toghether with the midfield ability he seemed to show late last year and you've got the Chapman/Didak type we really want.

And Mitch Morton will always be known as "Evo's boy".

Ever since his "Dear Beavis, (Insert Mitch two hands over head goal celebration) Regards Evo" post I have those two linked.

I think that was my fav PRE post of 2010. Bit skinny round these parts at the minute.

On Morton. I think he'll need to go back to the forward line next season. We added Conca, Grigg and Houli to our midfield but we only have one goal kicker of note.

Morton may get the odd run in the middle next year but his primary job should be to kick goals.
