McLachlan. ..... G.O.N.E.

Crowd numbers at their lowest since 1995 according to data published in the HUN. You reap what you sow.
The rule changes is the one that has driven people away and for the hard core AFL supporters the wasting of money to clubs like GC & GWS when everyone can see its never ever going to succeed. No competition has lasted on the GC and when figures like only 1% of kids are taking up AFL in the west of Sydney after 10 years of the club been formed in the region is a huge concern. Either they become privately owned or they shut down.
People have grown over the shut down / covid period that they can live without footy, it's not the end of the world if they don't go.
Has the media released the numbers for TV ratings, they would be abysmal too.
Gilligan will leave the game with Paramount showing 1 game a week on free to air like the A league. People dont know/care the finals series is on. another competition destroyed by office clowns.
The TV media constantly talking up the crowds like last week's game between Collingwood & Footscary, it wasn't packed. Like BT was making it out to be a full house.
Maybe Gilligan will sign with paramount and have 1 game a week on free to air.
Like the A league, crowds are shocking and they are in the finals campaign and none knows/cares. Good luck taking over from Gilligan absolutely destroyed the gameScreenshot_20220518-060540_Samsung Internet.jpg

The next Ceo must come in.
*Release Scott from his job and send him back looking after jnr Football.
*Keep 6'6'6 rule
*Get umpires with thick skins, no more *smile* decent free kicks. No wonder people are switching off.
*Get rid of the MAN on mark rule
*pay deliberate out of bounds, when it's deliberate.
*Ruck rule, ruckman can jump from any where they feel comfortable. 3rd man up.
*dangerous tackles not to be paid as free kicks, if they ruled to be dangerous they will need to go the tribunal.
* start merging clubs. Too many clubs
*Father sons / Grand father games only 50 to qualify.
*STart penalising players that duck,
*Stop paying kicks that don't travel 15 metres fken dumb umpires
***If the new bloke does this people will start coming back

Lots of good calls there zips. I'll add a few ideas..

- Inves$t heavily in umpiring. Make them full time professionals at AFL level. Pay decent coin to umpires from jnr level to amateur leagues. Offer a pathway.

- Get rid of 'below the knees'. Change it to 'dangerous contact' like kicking in danger. Worst rule in footy currently.

- Only pay 50m free kicks for genuine umpire descent. Not just a questioning of a free kick or putting your arms out. (Yes harden up, you're FT professionals now.)

- Remove video replays for goals that are touched if the goal umpire or field umpire didn't notice. Only use replays to make sure it goes between the right posts if unsure.

- Use the goal square again for kick outs.

- Bounce the ball only to start each quarter. Don't recall it if it bounces sideways. Then throw it up thereafter.

- Throw the ball up faster at ball ups. Throw the ball in faster at throw ins.

- Treat the men's & women's competition as different sports altogether. Different sexes need to have the game tailored to capabilities & physical differences.

- Decide which of GWS or Gold Coast is least profitable & delete them. Maybe time to delete North Melboure too. Bring in Tasmania only if profitable, not for emotional sake. Too many AFL & AFLW teams currently that are not profitable & all other clubs supporters are propping them up. Don't want another one.

- Invest heavily in CTE research & knee injuries for AFLW players.

- Ditch Ticketek/Ticketmaster & set up their own ticketing system. Bring back barcodes for club members.

Very good.
The ticketing system is just ridiculous.
I don't and can't work out how to book tickets online.

This is the best idea of the lot Oldie. The duopoly in ticket sales to major events is an absolute disgrace. They make squillions of dollars every year and provide ZERO in the way of customer service. Try getting help from these bastards if you have an issue with your account. You just can not contact them. It's a *smile* nightmare.

I've actually given up on them. If I need tickets to a major event now I have a relative who has a contact she has used for years to get tickets. You pay a bit more but it takes all of the pain out of it and have never been let down once.

I hate Ticketek and Ticketmaster more than I hate banks and insurance companies.

My brother is a Doggies supporter, has a reserved tick at Marvel, used to travels down from Central Vic. to watch them. He he went to one of the early season games & had so much trouble trying to navigate the ticketing, entry system crap on his phone that he gave up. He now stays home & watches on TV.
He also used to watch 2 or 3 games / week, now he only watches Doggies games, reckons the other games are not worth watching.
He'll also cancel his reserved seat next year.

How many other clubs supporters are feeling the same way.

Its all official or legal corruption. An insider establishment boys club, and GM's wife, who all hand each other billion dollar contracts at backyard barbeques. A show is made of tendering on occasion, but the business goes to mates. They get richer and have no incentive to provide good service. The ticket brokers are at the pointy end of it. Its a scandal how expensive and incompetent they are.

Simplest of all: don't set up umpires to fail by making them adjudicate pedantic and contentious rules like:
  • Stand (you can't run in to stand the mark, or step back away from the mark, or even run past when they're still going back to take their kick)
  • Dissent (you can't legislate against instinctive cultural reactions ingrained over thousands of years, like shrugging; it should be for demonstrable 'Abuse'
  • deliberate OOB for kicks moving the ball significantly forward (asking the umpires to legislate between a deliberate action, a skill error or a forced error).
Umpires are being asked to make unnecessary calls and some are blowing their whistles according to the strict letter of the law.

Make it easier for the umpires and there will be less frustration with them, and it will then be easier to recruit and retain more umpires.

Need a major media outlet not in the pockets of the AFL to run these points.

Oh. *smile*.

There used to be a rules committee that discussed changes, submitted them. They were trialled and assessed, some were introduced others weren’t. Now it’s one person it seems and they intro whatever knee jerk reaction to what they perceive as an issue. Does anyone actually discuss them with the umpires? This all started with Hocking, and Scott has continued it.

We still have no idea how many millions have been wasted on looking to fast track the success of these money pits.
The game was unbelievable vulnerable when covid hit & still hasn't recovered.

Before the rules committee, changes to the rules had to be run past all the major leagues - VFL, WANFL, SANFL etc. The AFL does not own the game, it is not the only senior level league and should not have sole say over things like the rules of the game. They neglect the lower levels and that is what will kill the game, along with the stupid rules they keep changing.
