Maurice Rioli Jnr

We know he’ll be rolled out for Dreamtime at the G… almost nothing surer. I do hope his finding the ball trend keeps tracking up…. I’m still in the “I’m not sure about this kid “ clan. Skills, yep, attitude, looks to be yep, belief… dunno

His pressure rating in the second and third quarters of the VFL game must have been through the roof.

When his tank is AFL ready to play midfield he will be something special.

I wonder how his career is tracking against someone like Bolton or Edwards.

From memory it took a while before Bolton became a regular, he was in and out of the team - had potential but there were always question marks over his tank, commitment and desire to grunt out a game.

Likewise Edwards took a long while before he started to influence games consistently.

Even Stengle took how many years and now at his 3rd club to be a consistent player.

For some reason we have set the bar pretty high for junior - the club sees something for him to even be in the extended squad for a Rd 3 game. Wow just Wow.

Centre Square clearance/Tackling machine that's his future.
Start in the centre then go forward.

Would be an instant upgrade on Castagna
I disagree on this. Castagna gets up and down the ground and can take a grab. For all his good plays he has an almost equal amount of spud-like moments, but especially when we're on he can be very dangerous. Case in point GF 2019 where he coulda kicked 6 goals. Also I'm pretty sure MRJ can't kick even half the distance George can.

MRJ might be an upgrade eventually but right now he absolutely isn't.

Castagna- 1 tackle last week. 1 goal. At least twice he spoiled Lynch’s marks. Why is is so bizarre that Rioli could do better?

Showed the classic improvement of a couple of AFL pre seasons under the belt last week , positive steps

He won't get better in the VFL.
He needs opportunities to improve at AFL level.
George has been afforded ample opportunities the past 12 months & is not improving.

He coulda kicked 6.

I coulda kicked 6.

He kicked 0.

Maurice could kick half as far, but he still kicked 10 times more goals than Castagna did in that GF.

MJ simply isn't fit enough yet to play George's high forward role sprinting from deep forward to the wings and back then going again and blocking the switch at senior level. Essentially a lot of Lambert's old role.

MJ's playing midfield into deep forward at VFL level by looks. Only 6 touches on the weekend but promising the week before.

We need more run in the senior team, not less.

Whenever I watch him in VFL he just seems to chase the ball around but never actually get his hands on it. I'm not sure he'll ever be an AFL footballer.

Personally I’d be putting Stacky into the side to replace George ,, we gotta mix it up if we re aiming for an improvement
