Panthera well written and said especially this quote below...

" Australia is evolving from a nation of athletic people who play sports, to a nation of fatsos who watch (and bet on) sports from the couch. Obviously societal factors, such as a 7 day working week and a time poor society influence this trend. But the entire management framework exacerbates the trend exponentially. Ultimately though, I feel it’ll come back to bite in the long run. "

My biggest issue.
My biggest fear is evolving in front of my eyes.
Well I'd take it a step further too. I don't believe any general govt revenue should be spent on elite sport. That being - Institute of Sport programmes, high performance squads, Olympic teams etc. that really only benefit a tiny portion of the population. If we want to fund these types of activities either let the corporate sector fund it and/or set up special purpose funding vehicles, such as a lottery or Australian Sports Commission Bonds or something like that.

General Govt revenue that is currently going into elite sport can then be redirected to grass roots community sport. To me, general govt revenue should be prioritised towards essential services. Elite sport isn't an essential service. However getting the masses off the couch is. And ultimately, the larger the base and middle levels of your pyramid, the better your elite end will be anyway.

Well written and I couldn't have said it better. Panthera.

I know it sometimes hard for some, maybe more athletes being able to train and fund themselves to achieve their objectives in competing in Commonwealth and Olympic Games.

But more needs to be done and looked after at the lower levels otherwise there will be children missing out on their dreams and a nation of kids ( with obesity problems which leads to possible mental health issues and associated health issues because of being obese.)

That's what it's all about. Our kids dreams. Without dreams what do they have?

Video games, tv and a nation of addicts of sorts when older.

We have gone a bit off topic with Jnr but it's all correlated.

Yes indeed, quite off topic :)

Having worked in both, there is no way that APS in better than TAC.

What I found, and still find, most alarming is the amount of players who would come back to TAC with poor habits or easily avoidable injuries. APS is great for playing with your mates, but from my perspective, most of the schools care more about the short term and not about what is best for the player.

Ive had a little bit of exposure to TAC but a fair bit to APS. The main difference is APS are out to win full stop and the depth isn't as good as TAC obviously as TAC is rep football and APS depends on the kids available at the school. I can't comment on every school but the one I am involved in has a senior coach who has worked extensively at TAC and is awesome in the way he sets the team up, manages injuries but most importantly works with the TAC coaches for the kids he has who are in the TAC system in terms of position played, areas they are trying to improve.

Again this may be a school to school issue but I consider APS every bit as good as TAC.

TAC cup much better boys are not prepared to go in the afl. Higgins and Stephenson played the majority in the tac cup and have made the transition more easier than cerra and Ldu from the kangaroos. Easier to dominate school footy than tac cup

When you saw him play did he look that tall

No certainly didn't look 180 to me but hard to judge when you are looking at him compared to the older boys which could have distorted my perception.

Would be fantastic if he gets to become that 186/187 size with the Maurice gene's he wont have any trouble putting on muscle

Think Daniel has been having alot to do with MRJ and no chance the kid doesnt end up at the tigers , Just hope we can get Daniel's Brother as well some how

Thanks for the insight Ghost.

Thought for my son to which pathway is best for in a few years time.

It’s bloody hard to get on the “pathway”. The kids who really aspire to play at the highest level need to be in inter league and TAC15’s then progress from there.

APS or AGS or ACC are all great but unless a scholarship is on offer it is so expensive. But if they are in that system it is another layer of good quality football education on top of club and TAC. I have noticed at my school most of the top kids bailed club footy for school and TAC in yr11.

My son is on this journey and whilst it is pretty cool is some ways in others it is a fun sucking stress inducing chore. They go on about enjoying footy then do everything in their power to make it unenjoyable.
