Maurice JNR

MRJ will be getting the best education and grounding possible , He would be on a very good scholarship at Scotch which would include all expences

Wouldnt surprise me if the Tigers are also contributing in 'Other ways' to his living expences as well as Cuz daniel around

This kid is as good as a sure thing as you can get , Its Daniel's brother thats going to be hard to get through the door

He's not father/son so all 17 other clubs will have access to him in the draft.

Won't Essendon have rights as he falls within their Tiwi Island academy zone?

MR jr will be F/S.
Daniel's brother will need to be drafted. Lottery

Is there any way we can pull a shifty and pick him up as a cat B like we did with Dekka Smith.

There should be an allowance for cultural/family ties for indigenous players. That would assist their assimilation into AFL football. It would help make the game more inclusive and promote indigenous participation rates.
With the LEAP programs on offer and the korin gamadji institute we are probably setup to provide the necessary expertise ;)

How does our indigenous academy work?
Is there a way he can come under it?

I dont believe he has to go to Essendon if he is in their Academy does he ?

Not too sure but it may be something like the father son thing where they can select to just go in the draft and we would have to select him with our pick prior to essendons

Isn't the academy for kids who otherwise wouldn't have gone through AFL pathways? As a Rioli he went through an AFL pathway at conception.
Sydney has an academy player this year whose dad played 300 AFL games.

Daniel's brother expressing in interviews his desire to play with his brother and uncle might dissuade interstate clubs but maybe not Melbourne clubs if they like him.

God save him from Essendon.

Might go and watch Scotch College 1st's vs Carey Grammar on Saturday and hopefully have another look at Maurice JNR?, (If he is playing that is as you don't get to see named side in advance).

1sts Scotch College vs Carey Grammar 11:00am Carey Sports Grounds, Dunshea Oval, Bulleen Rd, Bulleen 32 C10

It’s bloody hard to get on the “pathway”. The kids who really aspire to play at the highest level need to be in inter league and TAC15’s then progress from there.

APS or AGS or ACC are all great but unless a scholarship is on offer it is so expensive. But if they are in that system it is another layer of good quality football education on top of club and TAC. I have noticed at my school most of the top kids bailed club footy for school and TAC in yr11.

My son is on this journey and whilst it is pretty cool is some ways in others it is a fun sucking stress inducing chore. They go on about enjoying footy then do everything in their power to make it unenjoyable.
Yep, exactly what I was talking about earlier. Such a sports management style will eventually suck the life out of and sterilise Australian rules football a decade or two down the track. What we will end up with is a bunch of Auskickers and younger age group kids participating. Then an astronomical drop off from around the age of 11, with just a handful of people who made it into elite "pathways" or the AFL system itself playing beyond 13-14. There will be hardly any club or state league level of any meaning.

By having no meaningful grass roots scene and wider cultural attachment to your sport in the general community at a range of levels, this will eventually translate to lower interest in the top level and lower general talent pool to feed the top level (bit of a destructive, self fulfilling cycle really). Things will look rosy for the time being, but it will come back to bite in a couple of decades time. AFL crowds and viewership are already hitting a ceiling and plateauing. If it wasn't for the unexpected rise of the sleeping giant - RFC - in the past two seasons and the novelty value of the brand new wizz bang with bells on stadium in Adelaide. Crowds and interest would actually be in decline in recent years. In a sense, these two factors of 'luck' have allowed the AFL to put their head in the sand and arrogantly ignore the wider state of the sport at it's grass roots level..

Of course Aussie Rules Football is not the only sport in Australia running things this way. Most of our sporting bodies are infested with it. Because it is the same incestuous group of faces who slosh around the gravy train of various Australian sporting bodies year after year.

an AFL pathway is certainly one of the best euphemisms for a reproductive opening I have ever heard.

Yeah good point Willo and Ripples.

:hihi :hihi :hihi

Under-appreciated TBH.

Caught a glimpse of young MRjnr at Scotch this afternoon. Only young and his body is growing so looks on the pud side....but....the kid has SKILLS. Pending how he develops in a physical sense he will definitely play AFL, and do it for the Tigers.

Get excited people
