Nah, can't be him Mappa. He made sense and I was led to believe he was a broken hulk of a man scarred with 10 years of mediocrity working with raving lunatics

We are not fair dinkum unless we get this position right and I have no reason to believe that we have

I'm surprised more people aren't questioning this appointment.

Clarke could turn out to be good but did we give ourselves the best chance to land the best?

The thing with any recruiting is that you don't know the instructions given to those doing the recruiting.

If the recruiters are told year after year (after year!) to prioritise "Hard running mid-fielders" instead of the best footballers available, or the best key tall to play forward or in the ruck, is it their fault for the players we end up with?

You might have a decent horse and a good jockey, but if the owner is a fool who insists on running a race in a bad way then you won't take home too much prize money, will you?

Not sure the point Sin? Of course he knows his stuff to a degree.

Everyone else in his role displays the same.

Is he a cut above his 17 contemporaries who also love and breath that game is the question.

That was the thing with Wallace, he placed a real value on 69kg wingman at the expense of inside mids or kpp ,,ingenious ::)

My point is that he is being written off by many before he has done the job, to give him a chance to succeed or fail before judging him and that noone who posts here knows how he compares with his 17 contemporaries either.

He could be the greatest recruiter of all time as far as we know but because he has been poisoned by RFC he must be crap is the position so many take.

Fair comment.

But it is also fair comment to suggest this position is so important and unique. Its so hard to judge until years down the track if the replacement is successful and we should be exploring all avenues to get best available. The repercussions as we know last far longer than that.

We may have made a few enquiries i.e. Hind. But have we made a genuine attempt to get the best? From the outside in some fresh eyes into this failing insular dept would seem a no brainer.

Anyway - Clarke with largely the team from the past 10 years it is for the next few years, with the results to last longer.

Would rather we spread the net wider, but hope we sit here in 4 years when we can judge and he's nailed it.

Changing a boss can radically change how a team functions. You guys have been preaching on every single thread, every 2 out of 3 posts how changing Hardwick would result in a better performing team.

As the boss he'd be responsible for building his team and if he feels some of them aren't right and he needs new blood he should get them. It's Clarke's shop now, if the club realised the need to replace Jackson then I would expect them not to make a knee jerk reaction but to really believe the replacement is what we need.

You'd hope.

Our Management teams recent track record of making the correct appointment doesnt fill us with confidence Baloo.

Why should this when we havent fully gone to market.

Yeah, they've lost the right to the benefit of the doubt as far as I am concerned. But the little I've read of Clarke seems encouraging. We'll find out in a few weeks I guess.

We wont though, we wont find out until probably 2019/20.

By which time it affects the team for years after.

Its a unique position in the world where unless you really *smile* up, you cant be judged for years down the track.

It's why it's so damn important to get right.

It's almost impossible to get a recruiter to change clubs any time other than the period after the draft and before the next season. I would not be surprised if we bring someone else in after the draft. Regardless, without knowing Clarke's personal preferences at each draft pick we've had (we've read he wanted Cripps ahead of Lennon - anyone know any others?) none of us can judge one way or the other.

We have had this discussion already Harry. It's a ridiculous question because there is no way of knowing the answer. You just assume he isn't because of the headspace you are in
