Gerard Whately presents as a bit of a geek hence people find it appropriate to rip into him?

It's more that he's not with you, he's telling you. From on high.

Bruce establishes a rapport of sorts with his "You just think ... don't you?"

I'm really amazed by the vitriol on here - and (if I recall) there is an AFL360 thread that has more balanced views.

I find him to be one of the most balanced, informed and perceptive commentators out there. He is rapidly positioning himself to take over from Bruce McAvaney as the voice of sport (albeit not everyone loves Bwuce).

Most importantly - Gerard is one of (if not the only) commentator that asks a question and then allows the recipient the opportunity to respond in full. He doesn't enforce his opinion on anyone, he very rarely interrupts - and he takes his time to discuss the subject with the interviewee. He doesn't put himself at the forefront (look at me look at me) like the old blokey blokey players club tend to do - he takes his role as a commentator seriously and researches his subject (and topic) fully. Very few others can match him.

He may not have played but he knows more about AFL (and many other codes/sports) than the large majority of so called experts.

That everyone on here wants to attack him ............... surprises me.

But like I say leading up to every election:

"Never forget that 50% of the voting public have an IQ below 100!"

PS - I can't back it up - but I like saying it.

:)

I'll have to blame my Grandfather, he told to never trust a man that doesn't drink, Tom Hafey excepted :D 8-

From Ceasar reports I assume today was a fitness test, like round 5 or 12 for that matter..

Dimma has already said its up to him, hes said hes right, obviously fitness guys have ticked it off...

Went through with flying colors unless he pulls up badly he plays, I'm sure I'm not alone I'm very very excited by the big man..

I said Prestia was a gun and we will see this this year (pls no injuries), Tom is a different player obviously but even more important, hes a beautiful kick for goal, selfless and an absolute gun, don't think many in VIC understand how good he is!!

I don’t mind Gerard however you’re well off beam suggesting he doesnt enforce an opinion , I’d go as far as saying he very much pedals an agenda , was a major town crier in relation to rules reform and don’t get me started regarding his cricket opinions. Alas I don’t mind him

...except for when he's promoting the change to a grand final under lights.

Just watched tonight’s 360 replay and from they way Jack spoke I don’t expect Tom to be selected. Smoke and mirrors- maybe..

HS says he "fell just short of ticking off some of the measurements around change of direction and other testing measures".

Until the last few days there would have been some doubt about whether Jack would miss the game if his wife went into labour. With that no longer the case, the urgency of TL19's return is not so great. Mind you, they haven't been deflating those hopes since the birth.

I’m excited to see him play but I am also excited to see Balta get a run. If Lynch doesn’t get up and I get to see Balta run around that’s okay.

If on the other hand they play Soldo instead of Balta...

2 issues. Soldo, not bad at ‘Tap’ work, but totally useless at everything else.
Balta. Besides a 12 minute highlight reel against Melbourne, he did nothing against Hawthorn.
The Well is dry.

Instead of Weller we should’ve chased another ruckman. Roughead or even Campbell

That would be interesting considering lynch said it wasn’t even about the knee probably more about training load that would be holding him back.
