Dimma presser here..:))

Just watched it. Disappointingly cut short the ox criticism.
Probably good idea seeing as this is being posted on RFC site with RFC approval but writers for Fox Footy can perhaps be more liberal in what they display.

I certainly don't see it as being disparaging, Bob, we can all have different opinions.

We will have to agree to disagree on the media. There is good and bad as there is in every profession but I think your description fits a very small minority who tend to stand out.

I also disagree that it isn't paranoia, although that's not the word I'd use. Football is big business now but it is huge media business. 80 cents of every dollar in the game is generated by the media. With that comes huge scrutiny and it comes for everyone.

An incident on a prime time Monday night game is going to gather huge coverage. When that incident amplifies an incident already focussed on in previous weeks then the coverage is even bigger.

The attention to Lynch is nothing special or out of the ordinary but people see it as an attack because they are looking through the lens of unconditional support for their player and team. Talk to a Geelong supporter and they will tell you Hawkins and Ablett were suspended because of media witch hunts and Tom Lynch is getting an easy ride. Ask this forum and the Cotchin's were the victims of an anti Richmond media agenda and yet a young Sydney player had his 19 year old girlfriend door stopped by the national news a few days ago as well as huge coverage in every paper.

A salacious rumour about a Collingwood player went around on the weekend and this forum lit up with posters in absolute glee, relishing in it. When the Rance and Higgins stuff went around it was how dare people bring this stuff up, it's no-ones business etc etc.... The lens we look at things through is everything.

I know this is a fan forum so don't expect too much balance, but yeah, great points Big Richo. Go on other fan forums/Big Poopy and you see that fans of other clubs say pretty much the same things said here... the media is out to get us, the AFL loves Richmond and biases the system/draw/MRP for us, Dusty is the AFL's love child who is allowed to fend off to the neck/face etc etc.

I don't follow what he is saying about Ox. Is he suggesting he got scared and started crying on the field at the 20 minute mark of the first quarter or that he was crying 20 minutes after they lost?

On the field. TBF the writing was on the wall early in that GF.

That's true. Talking to and reading other fan forums can be rather interesting. I found Whately's defence of Ablett's first two elbows to the head of oppo players as being his way of protecting himself after 300+ games was cringeworthy. He admitted that when he punched Milo in the face the third week in a row that it deserved a week. The Hawkins hit got a lot of attention, but it was his third incident of the year and was a bad look. Lynchy needs to get the silly stuff out of his game, but keep the at the ball agression. I doubt he will be silly again this season.

The best example I can think of is a very good state cricket wicketkeeper through the 90s and early 2000s. He was a fine player and seemed a good bloke but I doubt he has a friend outside of his team mates from the time he played because of the things he said on the field. Nothing racist or otherwise illegal but he would consistently offend players with the stuff he said to them. Taking it too far would be the simplest way to put it I guess.

I am guessing his nickname might be Chuck.

Yeah no probs G.

The Ox is fair game since he's a pundit and made the criticism of Lynch I guess. Although I find what Dimma said amusing, still reckon he probably shouldn't have gone there. Dimma's normally a bastion of sensible statements in public to the point of being boring and not really saying anything much, so this is a change.

Don't remember Ox ever playing with a busted hand.

Small point of difference BR.

My understanding, which could be wrong,

Is cotchys wife unknowingly got a haircut?

Wheareas the poor sydney kids girl snuck in for a root?

I wont hang the sydney kid out. What 19yo doesnt do whatever it takes for a root?

Just pointing out the 2 incidents are not really a straight comparison??

sensing some hostility right about now
Not hostility, just scorn for your weak-kneed angle; along with others.

I watched Footy Classified last night and thoroughly enjoyed it because they all called it out for what it was - a beat-up - led by Fox Footy, Gawwy and Healy and co. and carried over to SEN where the mincing Gerard, Dwayne and co. fanned the spark. Then you have discredited nuff-nuffs like both Robinson and Blobbo, plus one of the ex-players (there's a few) who has somehow built a whole career around an inflated ego, Schwartz, chiming in with personal attacks.

They went on to highlight Collins punch of Lynch (after receiving a strange free kick) and Witts coming in to provoke a possible melee, but our players, including Tom, just got on with the game ignoring this very questionable adjudication. No accountability from the AFL for any actions by the GCS choirboys though, this must have still escaped your notice.

The whole FC panel were in agreement. Even Eddie was tolerable on it (perhaps due to inability to attend long restaurant lunches currently?). The comments of Ross Lyon (excellent) and even Lloyd (fair, honest and supportive of what KPFs cop) have all been reported on here or with links to other sites' transcripts. Overall, probably one of the best FC programs I ever have watched because, rarely, RFC got objective coverage which included cautionary advice for TL not to cross the line.

This media beat-up even brought our beloved Richo out from hiding behind his, "No I am never biased to my old club, will never back them up for risk of threatening my CH.7 job", came and spoke strongly but wisely in favour of TL.

I have a sneaking suspicion that the RFC haters wanted to position the AFL to be looking forensically at us and Tom especially, in order to maximise the chance of a suspension at a crucial time, if he steps over the line even mildly again as he has done this season. The highlighting of the club's alleged long list of offences (mostly all quite minor) is part of the narrative to categorise as a 'thuggy' team who succeed on the back of getting away with over-aggressive, underhand antics.

It's a load of BS, but some either couldn't spot it, or weren't prepared to stand up and back their great club, despite its excellence in nearly all respects over recent years.

Dimma's burn on Schwartz is my highlight of 2020. These former players that have moved into the media cant hide from their own past. Much like dermie carrying on about disrespectful saints for having
a Fancy handshake etc.... we all remember
Who u were/are.

It was bloody spot on from Dimma. Need more of it. Clarkson, Lyon, Sheedy, Malthouse would have said exactly the same, if not worse. Dimma is a x2 premiership coach, about time he started putting a few of these wannabe's in their place
He won a cpl as a player too

G-man said it was tongue-in-cheek, so I'm happy to move on from it. I don't mind disagreeing with the majority on here, if you see that as "weak-kneed" that's up to you. I'll keep calling things as I see them.

yeah, Dimma's normally above this kind of stuff, plays a straight bat. I suppose he feels he has to fly the flag for Lynch given the last few days.

Still think the "never complain, never explain" approach is best for these situations.
I thought he handled it beautifully - only gave it what it deserved, called it out for the beat-up it was, got the tone just right. Gave a whack to the dumb Ox.
You seem surprised he came in support of Tom. I'm quite surprised at your surprise, bro. ... Or upon thinking it over, maybe not.

So what wasn't sensible in your eyes?

And, Ox is 'fair game' but 'reckon he probably shouldn't have gone there.' Dimma has always been a man who takes a stand - as a player and coach and man. Especially where needed. Occasionally gets a bit worked up; just like TL. But never without fair reason.

Gun Dimma......Protect Players from the outside media snipers, different internal messaging...Alex Ferguson was the master of this.
This just stems from us being the team everyone wants to be, too many Richmond haters.

Well if Dimma was aiming to get the focus off Lynch he may have just transferred the target to his own back, 24 hours of commentary on Dimma's attack on Schwartz coming up :) .
Bad timing with no other games after ours this week we are certainly dominating the airways. As long as it doesn't distract us on-field.
