Lynch !!

Every time there is any negative coverage of anything Richmond it is deemed 'over the top'. There's always extreme elements of coverage on any issue but at the end of the day the coverage is what it is. It reflects the level of interest. The sensitivity here is pure patriotism.

This has been building with Lynch for quite some time and there's a lot more to it than just what you see. As much as it might defy the views commonly held in this forum, most journos aren't stupid or badly informed. They chat to players and coaches all the time and do plenty of backgrounding. Lynch's behaviour hasn't been popular for a while and the media have clearly sniffed that out.

I like him as a player and I like the way he plays footy but he has lost his way a bit with the non-footy stuff. Aggression and power is great, cheap shots and acting like a jerk do you no favours.

I don't think comparing the usual aspects of footy like backman niggling forwards is the right fit either. That happens every week. Giving a bloke lying face down on the ground a clip to the back of the head not so much. Pushing off a defender to lead is normal, throwing a punch to the guts not so much.

It's not the worst stuff in the world, he just needs to pull his head in.

Hi TBR
With respect, how do you know "This has been building with Lynch for quite some time and there's a lot more to it than just what you see".

I dont mean to be disparaging to you, and I never post as everyone knows, except once or twice. But NO, I dont agree with you - most of the media actually are quite stupid and actually make up stories. Most, if not almost all, the footy journos do no research, dont really watch the games, most dont know the rules - and most 100% make up stories - aiming as low as they can get. They are insecure about their jobs and positions (which they should be b/c most of them are totally hopeless and wouldnt get a job in any decent media outlet) and they are so dumb and lazy that rather than do the work to understand and write on the game, they create stories based on what others say and think. Fox footy articles are based solely on what a few of their people have said on their shows.

The pulling down of Lynch is not paranoia as a Richmond fan. It's the worst of what is now cancel culture on all social outlets. And its amplified 1000% when its Richmond. Just 5-6 weeks ago, it was Jack's turn. Then the groping which was disgusting but everyone else did it. Prior to that it was our supposed demands when in the hub - something Benny Gale pretty much said had no merit when interviewed on 3AW.

You tend to infer that Lynch is not so nice as if you know this somehow. Really?

Match highlights on the Club website...
3rd quarter
Lynch takes a nice contested mark
watch what collins does to him...it is not that its that bad but it shows the guy's mindset.
Lynch beat him fair and square and collins is filthy. He has obviously set himself for the game against the Premiers and is filthy that Lynch has taken this mark.
Looking at his carry on in the rooms after the game, does anyone else think he's a bit of a nutjob? Punching poles, separated from the team...Dew talking him off a ledge...

As someone else said ...is it Sam Collins first game of footy or something? The carry on has been extraordinary
Gary Lyon said we should feel sorry for him, when the box showed images of punching and sooking. Sorry Gaz, that was primary school behaviour........and they said Lynch was petulant, really?

Lynchy knew what he was signing up for when he came to Richmond, part and parcel of coming to the current biggest, most successful club in the land .
Have to take the good with the bad, if he did the same in a Gold Coast guernsey no-one would have batted an eyelid. As an example why didn't Witts get a fine they were as bad as each other, in fact i think Witts instigated it in his remonstration?
Also Aarts didn't help lynch out by inflicting the final blow which was all attributed to Lynch on the night and even after the facts came to light little coverage was given as Aarts not clickbait whereas Lynch is.

Good on our Captain who on 360 said it is a bit of a Storm in a teacup except for all non Richmond supporters it isn't :)

As someone else said, good to be hated again, it means we are successful , embrace it.

The media are hypocrite's,
Collins is this weeks hero, for having a 5 year old tantrum after the game.
But when Goddard walked into the rooms and slapped a plate of lollies off the table. He is showing no leadership, its very juvenile and its something a 200 gamer should be doing.

Put Jack Riewoldt’s or Richo’s head on that Collins body and watch the different media and social media reaction. There is no doubt Richmond stirs the ire of many - even when we were no
Good, but now we are good it is TDS

witts came up behind him and grabbed him around the neck and pulled him back. Is that allowed with no retaliation expected? Apparently..

He goes for the ball at each and every contest. I have never seen him shirk a contest. We are quick to forget Lynch held up the forward line for almost the entire season last year off no preseason. Up against multiple defenders at a time and destroyed Geelong in the prelim final.
Clipping a few blokes here and there should not cast a shadow of the toughness he shows on the footy field. Nor tarnish his character.

don't disagree, still prefer if he stopped acting like a *smile* though

And before that it was the Brooke Cotchin incident, which resulted in journalist Mitch Cleary copping a clip from head office.
I've a hunch, (it's actually more than a hunch) that the journo's are still smarting over that, and are now acting like school bullies.

Unarguable level of Anti RFC sentiment out there this year.

The Tigers are the target de jour.

so the journos want to punish the AFL by beating up on Tom Lynch?

We’re the AFL equivalent of the skinny kid who everyone used to pick on, but then hit their growth spurt and spent a summer in the gym to return and pay back all the crap they copped over the years. The ‘cool kids’ don’t like it.

Cleary named Brooke, which was at odds with an AFL media instruction, and Richmond complained to the AFL about it.

Yeah sorry I can't see a bunch of random journos beating up on Richmond because Mitch Cleary got stood down.

I can see them beating up on Richmond because it gets clicks however

It is all Fake News about Lynch. Ask Dimma to confirm it but if he does not give Donald a ring. Now this aint Fake News as Lynch has been cloned by our Master Coach Dimma to be a clone of Jack Dyer, Mopsy Fraser, Mal Brown & Mike Tyson all rolled into one. It has captured all of the AFL press (gangs) eye causing them to froth their angst at Lynch. Our Master Coach Dimma's ploy is falling into place as from now on all opposition backmen will want a piece of Lynch then Razor & his pee whistle lot should do their job & ping them. Whilst this charade is going on Jack, George, Spare Paarts ,Cotch , Daniel & even Grimey are running riot kicking buckets of goals. Simple isn't it.

All this stuff about backman niggling forwards is just nonsense.

Every forward and midfielder in the competition deals with the same. There's a massive difference between the way a Charlie Dixon handles it compared to what Lynch has been doing.

As for Robinson he's a complete and utter moron. The point most people seem to be missing though is that he is to off the field what Lynch is being on the field.

My beef is the double standards.

Hawkins punches someone, which he does a fair bit, then the media review the footage, which is compelling, then the kind of sheepishly admit that good guy Tom may have gone a bit far in this instance and done the wrong thing, but he's a really nice guy. (formline as long as your arm, a few years ago he punched a bloke in the throat and collapsed his asophagus and the media went 'nothing to see here!"

Likewise Buddy. Become more and more the hitman as he has aged. When he is playing and the Swans are in trouble, Buddy goes the knuckle, set your watch by it. Everytime he goes up, any discussion of the offence the media either talks it down or plays it straight. Never any witch hunts or pile-ons.

Could chuck Jeremy Cameron in too. Copped a bit of a whack a while ago for being dirty, and he is, but never on a sustained basis, and heaps of smaller stuff worse that Lynch, like the repeated 'unsociable' holding down, face-massage stuff in the finals last year was actually greeted by many in the media, as, quote "we love this stuff", and "I don't mind that" etc.

Double standards, they can get stuffed.

What gives me the s***s, and I'm sure plenty of others around here too, is the media witch hunt around this.

As many have said, forwards, backs, mids, hell, everyone is throwing a little tap here and a little whack there. But the media pick and choose which one they're going to go apes*** about.

Infinitely worse than this, the AFL reacts to the media s***storm and pull out a couple of selective fines for the chosen villain of the week. They then cheerfully ignore at least a dozen similar incidents. The AFL, if it were a professional organisation, would look at the games and pick out the incidents. Instead, they are led by the nose according to who the media choose to sensationalise each week.

I wouldn't give a f*** what the media says if it wasn't for the fact that what the media says seems to have a huge influence on what the amateurs running the show at the AFL do.

Yet again, just like the incident in the change rooms, the media are setting the agenda for the AFL, ironically including the AFL employed media (what a f***ing amateur organisation that can't even get the line right from the so-called journos they employ).

Remember too, the media are not doing this because they reckon what Lynch did was any worse than what dozens of other players do every week, they are not concerned about Collins being hit, they are certainly not concerned about Reiwoldt being whacked and getting a couple of stitches above the eye. They had no concern about Chol. No concern when Dixon ran straight through Baker with eyes only for taking out Baker, Dixon wouldn't have known where the ball was. No, all they are concerned about is getting more clicks or ratings and being the centre of attention.

It's time the AFL put football back on the back page of the newspaper, not media sensationalism which is all about the media attracting attention for itself.
